  • Last month, Pathfinder’s Charles Waka sat down with SciDev.Net to talk about how AI is transforming maternal and newborn healthcare in Nigeria. Through the Geospatial Microplanning Toolkit (GMT) - a project funded by Gates Foundation - we’re using AI and GIS mapping to make sure health resources reach the people who need them most. In three states, we’ve partnered with Data Science Nigeria to create AI models that optimize health data, helping us identify and support underserved communities that might otherwise be missed. The result? ✅ More efficient health programs ✅ Earlier interventions for moms and babies ✅ Better patient care and outcomes This work is proving that AI isn’t just about tech - it’s about impact. • Friendly reminder for our Anglophone colleagues! Join us on April 8 for "Whose Voices are Missing? Breaking Language Barriers in SRHR," an interactive webinar exploring how English language dominance impacts the #SRHR field. Bidirectional interpretation in English, French and Spanish will be provided. How can we move beyond defaulting to English and towards greater language inclusivity? Why is it critical to address this issue now? Register today to join the discussion: https://bit.ly/4iV8O6e More information on this topic: https://bit.ly/4hMc5nw

• Through our Qadam ba Qadam Project, Pathfinder Pakistan has collaborated with the Population Welfare Department and Department of Health in Punjab to develop the Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Strategy for Family Planning, which has been officially approved by the World Bank and Government of Punjab. To drive implementation, we held two workshops on SBC Capacity Strengthening and Action Planning to train government representatives from across all 36 districts. These workshops: • Strengthened understanding and implementation of SBC strategies for family planning • Provided tools to leverage data for strategic planning and implementation • Emphasized theory-driven approaches for impactful SBC interventions A big thank you to our partners from the Department of Health and Population Welfare Department in Punjab, the SBC Community of Practice, and other stakeholders for their continued collaboration and support! Together, we are shaping a stronger, more responsive health system in Pakistan. #SocialBehaviorChange #SBC #FamilyPlanning #CapacityBuilding #HealthSystems

  • Almost 70 years ago, Pathfinder started as a family planning organization—and we have only grown from there. As we look back on another incredible year, we reflect on our critical role in creating a more just, equitable world. Today, we continue to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights while enhancing the resilience of communities on the frontlines of climate change, supporting the financial autonomy of women and girls, and strengthening health systems to serve through times of crisis. • We are thrilled to announce our new collaboration with the Green Climate Fund!   The Green Climate Fund has approved our concept for designing the Sustainable Adaptation for Healthcare Advancement (SAHA) program—the first regional climate and health initiative in the Middle East & North Africa region. We will be working together with the Green Climate Fund and partners in Jordan, Egypt, Oman, Lebanon, and Iraq to develop a full program proposal.    We launched this new initiative in Amman, Jordan on February 27, with representatives from ministries of health and environment in the five countries. Together with partners Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management, participants discussed how the SAHA program will advance climate-resilient healthcare across the region. This included:    ✅ Techniques and strategies for localizing humanitarian and development aid, such as shifting decision-making resources and leadership to local organizations; strengthening the capacity of local actors to manage projects, ensure impact, and scale interventions; engaging communities to foster local ownership and accountability; and engaging businesses, tech companies, and impact investors to strengthen local supply chains, service delivery, and economic resilience. ✅ Strategic insights on the health-climate nexus, such as the importance of investing in climate-adaptive healthcare infrastructure, strengthening disease surveillance and early warning systems, and integrating climate-health strategies into policy and governance.  #ClimateHealth #Localization #MENADevelopment Tabinda Sarosh Mohamed Abou Nar Yosra Albakkar

  • In Kenya’s Lake Victoria region, where fishing is a vital economic activity, rural fishing communities confront interconnected climate-health challenges, which have a deep impact on women. Climate change has adversely affected the lake ecosystem, leading to reduced fish catches that threaten the livelihoods and health of women. With fewer fish available, many women fish mongers turn to transactional sex to secure fish to sell. This exploitative “sex for fish” practice reduces their agency over their sexual and reproductive health, exposing them to sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. To address these issues, the Darwin Initiative, with funding from Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, implemented the Pairing Community Conservation Areas with Sustainable Aquaculture in Lake Victoria project from 2021‒2024. Pathfinder’s role aimed to promote gender equity and mitigate health risks as part of the project goals of sustainable aquaculture, enhanced environmental conservation, and resilience to climate change. Learn more about how we improved conservation of the lake ecosystem, enhanced access to health services, and reduced reliance on transactional sex: https://bit.ly/42aFXFh
