An all-electric star is born! ⚡ This week we started production of the hotly anticipated Škoda #Elroq. 🌟 This compact SUV will make #emobility even more accessible as the most affordable BEV in #Europe in its segment, taking into account its battery size and extensive standard equipment. It also achieves price parity against its ICE counterpart in many markets. I’m excited to bring this new model to the road following the positive response from media and customers to the World Premiere in Prague last October. Between then and the end of the year, we received more than 20,000 orders – remarkable! 🚀 The Elroq is our first production model to fully adopt Škoda Auto’s new Modern Solid design language. The design is eye-catching and also contributes to excellent aerodynamics that enable an e-range of more than 580 km, while reduced charging times further improve the customer experience. 💪 This attractive package is the latest expression of our strategy of giving customers the freedom of choice in their powertrains – with a growing range of BEVs as well as highly efficient combustion models and mild and plug-in hybrids. As an industry geek, I’m also proud that we can produce this new model on the same flexible production line as our EV and ICE top-sellers: the all-electric #Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé series and the #Octavia ICE and mild hybrid models. 🚙 Our main plant in our Czech hometown of Mladá Boleslav is the only Volkswagen Group facility in Europe set up to build combustion and electric models on the same line – giving us extra flexibility to respond to what our customers want. 🏭 The fact that we also produce battery assemblies nearby for our #BEV cars and others from the Volkswagen Group creates additional synergies that benefit our customers and our business model. ICYMI: Made-in-North-America Polestar 3 begins deliveries in Canada — The Polestar 3 is the automaker’s first model to roll off the assembly line in North America at its new South Carolina facility. ... Just in time for the holidays, Polestar’s first Made in North America vehicle is delivering to customers in Canada. The first Polestar 3s from Polestar’s South Carolina plant are landing in driveways across Canada, confirms the automaker. I’m extremely proud and excited for the delivery of U.S.-built Polestar 3s making their way to customers,” said Anders Gustafsson, head of Polestar North America, in a press release. “Polestar 3 plays a pivotal role in our brand’s expanding lineup as an SUV designed for the North American market, proudly assembled in South Carolina, and now being handed over to North American customers.” The initial Polestar 3 deliveries in Canada were to customers in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. The starting MSRP is $85,200 for the vehicle’s long range dual motor model. It is not eligible for any federal or provincial rebates. Hello Bochum, hello CAR Center Automotive Research! ☝ It was an honour to join CAR Director Prof. Dr. Helena Wisbert and speak at their annual New Mobility World & Symposium. What a great setting to focus on the transformation of the entire automotive sector – and on how Škoda Auto is steering our course as a thriving brand. 💚 The ongoing transformation of our industry is currently again at the centre of public debate and also in the spotlight of the conference. “Electromobility – Royal Road or Dead End?” was the deliberately provocative title I chose for my keynote. Spoiler alert: Of course the long-term future is electric – simply because that powertrain uses energy most efficiently. Fighting climate change remains a top priority. My point was not to advocate for any change to European deadlines but to put the focus on the #customers. They are the ones who must buy into #emobility in order for legislative deadlines to be achieved. As a manufacturer, we are doing our part, including by launching six new fully electric models in the next several years. This includes introducing the Škoda #Elroq later this year in the popular compact SUV segment. The city SUV crossover Škoda Epiq for around 25,000 euros will follow soon after. Society and governments also need to continue doing their parts to make e-mobility more attractive, including by expanding #charging infrastructure. ⚡ The customer is our priority in this era of transition, which is why we intentionally offer a choice of powertrains: highly efficient ICE models, mild and plug-in hybrids, and a growing range of BEVs. This is core to our strategy of providing the best mobility solutions based on customer preferences. 🚘 I was grateful to hear many industry colleagues at the CAR conference also talk about customer-centricity. These 5️⃣0️⃣ years of this model have represented a constant evolution, adapting to the needs and desires of each new generation. “The Birth” - 1️⃣ generation (1975 - 1981): The first was presented as a more austere version of the Audi 50. This generation’s Polo was a 3.5-meter-long model with a maximum power of 60 HP. “Its Consolidation” - 2️⃣ generation (1981 - 1994): This new version was presented with a more modern and attractive design. With a size of 3.66 meters and a maximum power of 115 HP, it consolidated in the market. “The Arrival of an Icon” - 3️⃣ generation (1994 - 2001): A more aerodynamic model and a more modern range of engines offering up to 120 HP and continuing to grow in size to 3.74 meters. “The New Millennium” - 4️⃣ generation (2001 - 2009): With the new century, a new generation. With a more mature and sophisticated design offering up to 180 HP for the Cup Edition and growing more than 15 centimeters. “A Version Closer to the Golf” - 5️⃣ generation (2009 - 2017): This generation included various versions like BlueMotion with an average consumption of 3.3l/100km and the Polo R WRC Street model with 200 HP. “A New Era” - 6️⃣ generation (2017 - present): With this new era, the Polo quickly became a commercial success.
