We're honored to announce that five outstanding nonprofits addressing food insecurity in New Jersey have received a combined $25,000 in State Strategic grants from the American Water Charitable Foundation: Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Food Bank of South Jersey, Fulfill, Mercer Street Friends, and Norwescap. As an organization deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we nominated these food banks for their unwavering dedication to ensuring residents have access to nutritious meals. The American Water Charitable Foundation celebrates #GivingTuesday by awarding a $100,000 Corporate Strategic grant to Feeding America, as well as provided American Water employee Giving Accounts with a $100 reward to donate to eligible charities of choice. Rising food costs have made it challenging for people to feed themselves and as a result has stretched many charitable food organizations thin. Our goal with our newly named Food Security Campaign is to help these organizations nourish communities in need. Today is World Food Day, so we'd like to take moment to highlight the importance of food security within our communities. Last year during our Vital Signs research, we found "Increasing Food Security" to be one of the emerging focus areas. In Saskatchewan, the cost of living is increasing, causing many families to sacrifice food choices for other basic needs like rent. As a result, food banks and other organizations are experiencing a rise in the usage of their services. This is why funds held at the Community Foundation like the Vital Community Fund and the Regina Food for Learning Legacy Fund are so important. They help to bridge this funding gap experienced by charities.
