I've applied to hundreds of jobs, but the interviews I’ve landed are with organizations where I’ve built relationships and trust. In contrast, the roles I’ve applied to blindly—without first investing time in networking and building a reputation—have often led to radio silence. Intentional Communication – defined as something done with intention or on purpose. It implies that we are speaking with awareness of our purpose and its effects on others. As a Recruiter how do we communicate with intention and/or purpose? For me it starts by knowing my purpose for a given conversation, and then determine how I get the information to the individual(s) that I am talking to you. To do this I must develop an intentional communication strategy so that I can work to achieve my desired outcome. Intentional communication comes through building relationships, rapport and trust. When building a relationship ensure not all communication is business, be personable; be genuinely interested in the person, don’t talk about people negatively, and be kind. These are some aspects of relationship building.
