Meet the Founding Associations Behind SPACE AISBL 🌟 Five pioneering organizations have come together to establish SPACE AISBL, an association committed to fostering research and development for competitive space systems across Europe. Here's what makes each founding association unique and how they contribute to this vital partnership: 🚀 Eurospace: A longstanding advocate for space industry development, Eurospace plays a critical role in linking the European space community with major bodies like ESA and national space agencies. Their work ensures that industry insights inform policy and strategic direction. 🌍 SME4SPACE: Representing the voice of Space SMEs, SME4SPACE facilitates access to space programs and supports the participation of SMEs in ESA and EU initiatives. Their extensive network boosts collaboration and innovation among Europe’s small and medium-sized enterprises. 🔬 ESRE: The Association of European Space Research Establishments pools expertise from leading public research centres across eight countries, advancing joint R&D and enhancing the global competitiveness of Europe’s space sector. ESRE’s collaborative model tackles grand societal challenges through targeted research efforts . 🛰️ EASTRO: This association unites 15 RTOs from 11 countries, collectively driving forward breakthroughs from satellite subsystems to quantum tech and climate solutions. With thousands of experts and significant R&I investment, EASTRO exemplifies how research can fuel economic growth and societal impact. ✈️ EASN: Bringing together academia from across Europe, EASN supports cutting-edge aerospace research and technology. Its 300 members are affiliated with major universities, making it a key driver of innovation, knowledge-sharing, and breakthrough tech in the aerospace field. Why This Partnership? By uniting their unique strengths, these five associations formed SPACE AISBL to drive strategic research and innovation for Europe’s space ecosystem. This week, the 17th European Space Conference in Brussels set the stage for the key discussions that will shape space policy in 2025. From sustainability and technological leadership to Europe's role in an evolving global space economy, the conference underscored the need for a coordinated approach to maintaining Europe’s competitive edge. For organizations like SPACE AISBL and the Globally Competitive Space Systems (GCSS) Partnership, responding proactively to these policy updates is not just a necessity—it’s a chance to help shape the future of European space innovation. The History of Space AISBL and the Partnership 🚀 As we continue to build our presence on LinkedIn, we want to take a moment to reflect on the history of Space AISBL and the exciting partnership we've formed to boost the competitiveness of the space sector. Since our founding by five associations - ASD-Eurospace, SME4SPACE, Association of European Space Research Establishments (ESRE), EASTRO, and EASN - European Aeronautics Science Network we have been dedicated to creating a unified voice for the upstream space community. Our mission took a significant step forward with the establishment of the “Digitalisation for Commercial Space Solutions” Partnership, which began its activities in June 2023. What is this Partnership about? The Partnership aims to enhance competitiveness in three key areas: 1. Commercial Earth Observation Solutions 2. Commercial Telecommunications Solutions 3. 🔎 Reflecting on 2024: Progress and Milestones for the SPACE AISBL Community As the year slowly comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on key achievements that have shaped 2024 for the SPACE AISBL community and our partners. This has been a year of foundational progress, marked by collaboration and strategic advancements: 🚀 Official Launch of the GCSS Partnership With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Globally Competitive Space Solutions (GCSS) Partnership was officially launched. This milestone formalised our shared commitment to driving innovation in Earth Observation, Telecommunications, and New Space Transportation Systems. 💡 Stakeholder Consultations Throughout the year, consultations provided a platform for stakeholders to contribute to the direction of European space R&I. These discussions were instrumental in identifying priorities and fostering a collective vision for the sector. 📄 Call Documents Preparation The release of Call documents marked another important step, setting the stage for collaborative research and innovation projects aligned with the GCSS objectives. We will release more information on this topic soon. 🌐 Establishing a Digital Presence We also launched our LinkedIn page, creating a platform to connect with stakeholders, share updates, and facilitate dialogue within the European space community.
