Target pathogens in beef and dairy #cattle with precision. 🎯 There's no escaping harmful environmental pathogens. CLOSTAT® active microbial from Kemin contains a unique, proprietary strain of Bacillus subtilis PB6. PB6 disrupts Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella, and Escherichia coli, which can negatively impact cattle health. Extensive research within large commercial research facilities, farms, and universities demonstrates a consistent animal response and significant return on investment. Because of the 1.) zoonotic disease concerns, 2.) antimicrobial resistance threats, 3.) animal welfare harms and the 4.) environmental disaster that is intensive animal agriculture today the Mass VMA has proposed a resolution endorsing the research, production and sale of cellular agriculture generated animal based proteins for food. Massachusetts is the appropriate place for this movement to gain traction because of the Tufts University Center for Cellular Agriculture (TUCCA) and the USDA cell ag research home here. A vote is being taken on the resolution at the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) House of Delegates meeting in Chicago this week. Veterinarians - if a large volume of animal protein products can be produced this way it will also mean 1.) less pressure on the availability of large animal veterinarians 2.) better quality of doctoring on individual patients over populations 3.) reduced moral distress. If you want to see this resolution pass, contact your state VMA immediately, and let them know. I will paste the text of the resolution into a comment. Big thanks to our co-sponsoring state VMAs in Maine & Vermont!
So today the US recorded the first human fatality from H5N1. I thought this would be a good time to reiterate that one important response to the “bird flu” crisis should be transitioning from animal agriculture to growing plants and mushrooms for human consumption — and that two programs I support, The Transfarmation Project and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s Convert to Crops, are helping farmers to do this very thing. Image: Cover of Michael Greger, M.D.’s *2006* book on related matters. Reading this book soon after its original publication was a huge eye-opener for me.
