Having just completed the course "Game Development using Unity: Ball Cannon" on Coursera, I am more passionate than ever about diving deeper into the world of video game creation. This course marked not just a step forward in my learning, but the completion of my very first 2D project—a real initiation into the craft of game development! 🎮 What I’ve Learned: Mastery of Unity’s interface and settings, setting a strong foundation for all future projects. Deep understanding of Unity’s physics system, learning how to apply physical behaviors to game objects effectively. Development of game control systems using C#, which involved writing scripts that breathe life into gameplay mechanics. 🔗 Moving Forward: This is only the beginning! Week 6 of My 8-Week Game Dev Challenge: Unity & Game Development Fundamentals 🎮🕹 This week, I went back to basics in Unity, building an Obstacle Dodge mini-game using C#. My focus was on core mechanics, setting aside visuals to really get hands-on with programming fundamentals. I worked on player movement using time.deltatime and rotations, tweaking variables with SerializeField to gain more precise control. Triggers and collisions were central, with OnCollisionEnter managing interactions between the player and obstacles. I also set up flying projectiles, adding responsive behaviors with if statements and a scoring system. A big part of this week was discovering the power of Prefabs, which allowed me to create reusable game objects that I could easily duplicate across the scene. This simplified the process of spawning obstacles and projectiles while keeping gameplay elements organized. Overall, this week was all about reinforcing my understanding of Unity’s core mechanics—returning to the essentials to build a solid foundation in game development. Next up, I’ll dive deeper into more advanced game development concepts. Can’t wait to keep learning and pushing forward on this journey! 🚀 Excited to Share My Latest Project! 🚀 As part of my learning journey with Outscal’s Full Stack Game Development in that Unity Fundamentals MAT-1 module, I built a Snake 2D Game from scratch! 🐍🎮 This project allowed me to dive deep into game mechanics, UI/UX design, and Unity scripting. I've integrated features like: 1. Multiplayer Support: Compete with friends using custom controls! 2. Power-Ups: Shield, speed boosts, and score multipliers to spice up the gameplay. 3. Dynamic Food Spawning & Snake Growth: The more you eat, the bigger you get! 4. Game Over Conditions: Watch out for collisions with your own tail or the other player! This project has been an incredible hands-on experience and a great way to apply the Unity fundamentals I've been learning.
