🚀 We’re thrilled to announce that CLEAR Living Well 2025 is starting in the New Year!🚀 The National CLEAR Programme, commissioned by NHS England, is offering four NHS systems – up to 16 PCNs per system - an opportunity to participate in a programme to adapt proven models of care for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD)– supporting system-wide transformation and upskilling of the workforce. This fully funded opportunity will help sites refine prevention pathways, clinically tested during previous CLEAR Living Well work, with the goal of driving transformational change in CVD prevention.💡 Participating sites will be supported to develop new pathways using existing resources, setting the stage for successful, sustainable implementation. Racial and ethnic disparities in stroke care exist, and we recognize the need to close the gap to provide equitable access, treatment and outcomes for all. To combat this, we're proud to share that we've published a new Executive Report titled “Review of Programmatic Interventions, Best Practices and Recommendations Aimed at Closing the Racial and Ethnic Disparity Gap in Stroke Care,” which provides a review of best practices and recommendations for stroke care teams. Building upon our findings, we also launched our globally accessible digital health equity hub containing applicable research, interactive assets, and progress evaluation tools to assist in closing the gap on care disparities in stroke. The James Lind Alliance has identified one of its top priorities for stroke care as improving how the public, paramedics, and healthcare professionals recognise and respond to stroke or TIA more effectively and quickly. Notably, they highlighted a critical limitation of the FAST test: it does not capture all strokes. For over a year, my family and I have been advocating for an alternative—BE FAST, which adds Balance and Eyes to the traditional FAST test. BE FAST is already used successfully overseas, and its expanded criteria could help detect more strokes that FAST misses. So, why aren’t we trialling it here in Scotland? We already know FAST has its limitations. Let’s not settle when there’s a possibility of a better solution. A trial comparing BE FAST to FAST could provide the evidence we need to save more lives and improve outcomes. If we have the tools to do better, we must act. 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 The Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation is the leading organization for science-based education and patient services for people suffering from restless legs syndrome. It is also the only organization with a dedicated research grant program to advance promising research leading to new treatments and a cure for RLS. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) was once regarded as a “rare” condition, but our understanding of the disease has changed drastically and we now know the condition is not rare at all. In fact, recent research suggests that up to 7-8% of the general population has this condition – that is perhaps the most common condition that is unrecognized in the medical community and the public realm. Since its inception in 1992, the Foundation has provided nearly $2 million in support of RLS research and has grown from a small group of volunteers meeting around a kitchen table in Raleigh, North Carolina into a bustling organization with full-time staff and an office in Austin, TX. Through our support network, research grant program, and more, we are dedicated to supporting all those affected by #restlesslegsyndrome.

In partnership with Unity Health Toronto, we are creating a streamlined care pathway to provide patients with timely access to advanced cardiac procedures and interventions at St. Michael's Hospital. This collaboration marks a significant milestone as we work towards a Level 4 Regional Cardiac Program status, expanding clinical care for our community. I am very proud to announce that Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular are partnering to advocate for improved access to stroke care. By teaming up together and by joining forces with the World Stroke Organization Advocacy Coalition, we’re aiming to raise awareness about the major opportunity of improving the lives of millions. Some facts: - Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death globally. - With new therapy, stroke is highly treatable, preventing disability and life-long impact. - Today, only a fraction of patients globally get adequate treatment That is why together with Medtronic Neurovascular and WSO we will advocate for stroke care to become a global health priority.
