Suzanne Crone’s mental health struggles caused her to feel a dark, spiralling hopelessness and loneliness. Thanks to the help she received through the Nanji Family Mental Health Services at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), Suzanne not only has hope — she gained the tools to cope and is also using her powerful story to help others. She credits the kindness and empathy she received from MSH’s staff for helping her feel like she was safe and that she was going to be okay. Suzanne is just one of many in the community who struggle with their mental health, in fact the demand for mental health services has risen 25% in recent years. Expanding mental wellness services for both adults, as well as youth and adolescents, is critical. Which is why your help is needed today. Meet Luci Hubbard! 👋 From the moment Markham Stouffville Hospital opened its doors on March 5, 1990, Luci has been part of the team — making her one of our longest-serving volunteers! For over three decades, she has been a constant presence — greeting visitors, assisting with registration, and guiding patients to their destinations. And while the role may seem simple on the surface, it’s one that she finds deeply fulfilling. "I remember when I first started, I was inspired by the staff and the volunteers who were so dedicated to supporting others," says Luci "Now, after 35 years, it’s the appreciation I receive from staff and visitors that keeps me going. When people thank me for helping them find their way or make their visit a bit more comfortable, it’s an incredible feeling of accomplishment."
