Recently, I had the privilege to attend the Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas Internship and Job Fair, and I believe that as a junior, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet several employers and learn about the skills they are currently seeking. And most importantly, I got the opportunity to network with many people. I would like to extend my gratitude to all the employers who participated in the JSOM Career Fair and guided me, including Texas Instruments, Southwest Airlines, Charles Schwab and Toyota North America. One key takeaway I would like to share with everyone is that whenever you have the chance, you should attend these internship and job fairs. It gives you a much better understanding of what employers are looking for in terms of skills and qualifications. Secondly, you should aim to meet as many employers as possible during these fairs because you never know when you might leave a lasting impression on someone that could benefit your career. You all should always keep your resume completely up to date, and I think the elevator pitch is a very important thing, so you should be prepared for that. For the elevator pitch, you can take guidance from your mentor or friend, anyone. I look forward to attending more of these fairs and building as many connections as I can. The Business Career Fair hosted by OSU Career Services this fall was a huge success! With over 170 employers sharing details about internships and full-time opportunities, our MS BAnDS students had the chance to explore potential career paths. Companies from our Corporate Advisory Board were also present, interacting with students and providing valuable information about available roles. Our students made the most of this opportunity to network and explore their future careers. 💡 Idea for schools when arranging careers fairs… Yesterdays Apprenticeship Academy focused on where to find opportunities. We spoke about offline opportunities, including asking about apprenticeship programmes following work experience placements and networking at careers fairs. Feedback from our participants with regard to Careers Fairs is that there was a) lots of unis and not many employers and b) too much information given in a short space of time and they couldn’t take everything on board. An idea from this could be to have smaller careers fairs that focus on sectors. Students agreed that this would be better for them and they would rather attend a smaller fair with less stands that feels more relevant to their industry interests. #sharingthegoodstuff #thevoicesthatmatter
