From carrying glow sticks and flashlights to choosing face paint over masks, there are simple steps we can all take to keep kids safe while they enjoy their spooky night! Here’s a quick checklist to help you plan a safe Halloween: 1. A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighbourhood rounds. 2. If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you. 3. Remind kids to cross the street at corners or crosswalks and look both ways. 4. To stay safe, walk on sidewalks whenever possible or on the far edge of the road facing traffic. 5. Carry glow sticks or flashlights, use reflective tape or stickers on costumes and bags, and wear light colours to help kids see and be seen by drivers. 6. Make sure costumes fit well to avoid blocked vision and help prevent trips and falls. 7. Choose face paint over masks when possible. Masks can limit children’s vision. 8. Eat only factory-wrapped treats. If you have any doubt about the safety of a treat, throw it out. 9. Slow down and be alert! Kids are excited about Halloween and may dart into the street. Safety in numbers, right? 2️⃣ Costume precautions: Opt for costumes that are visible at night and don't obstruct vision. Adding reflective tape or glow sticks can make a huge difference. Safety can be stylish too! 😉 3️⃣ Be street smart: Pay extra attention to traffic and cross the streets only at designated crosswalks or intersections. Safety trumps sugar rush, my friends! 5️⃣ Stay well-lit: Carry flashlights or use mobile phone lights to navigate in the dark. This makes it easier for others to see and spot you too. Let's keep the scare-factor appropriate, okay? 6️⃣ Respect boundaries: Remind kids not to enter strangers' houses or accept rides from unfamiliar individuals. Safety first, always!
