Last week at Fire Industry Education Resource Organization (F.I.E.R.O.) in Greenville, SC was one for the books! Our President/Owner Tonya Herbert taught TWO classes - one on Preliminary Exposure Reduction and one on Gear Storage. We were also lucky enough to tour Safety Components, which allows us to be as knowledgeable as possible in the various materials we use for repairs. Looking forward to next year! 🔥

🔥🎗️ WEEK 4 of #FireFighterCancerAwarenessMonth: Reduce Your Exposure to Carcinogens - On-Scene Gross Decon o Wet Decon: Wet decon is 85% effective at removing PAHs. o After on-scene gross decon and before eating or drinking, wash hands with soap and water. In lieu of soap and water, use disposable wipes for face, neck, and all areas of exposed skin, and hand sanitizer for hands. o Doff decontaminated gear and seal in a leak-proof bag. Place bagged gear in an outside compartment on the apparatus. Do not transport any contaminated PPE/equipment in the cab of any apparatus as it will transfer contaminants to apparatus seats, resulting in exposure to the next member who enters due to cross-contamination.
