One of the things from this year that I'm most proud of is the guidance document that we set up during the #OSR24NL retreat, and that I took back to our faculty to actually implement it! We are not at the implementation stage yet, but the guidance document went through several rounds of feedback, which has led to some changes. So it was time to upload a new version on Zenodo: https://lnkd.in/eC5fHeP5 There is still a lot of work to do, but I'm happy where I left this - and hopeful for implementation of this in the future! #OpenScience #OpenData #OpenSoftare #OpenMethods #OpenHardware #OpenEducation

Today I'm at the National Open Science Festival at Maastricht University, where Hugo Quené, Coosje Veldkamp and myself gave a session on stimulating (re)use of FAIR research data among researchers. While significant efforts have been invested in ensuring the production of FAIR data, an equally critical aspect - stimulating the reuse of data - remains relatively underexplored. What obstacles and opportunities can be identified in data (re)use and which strategies could help to promote (re)use of existing data? Together with participants from various institutions and disciplines we discussed ways to stimulate the 'R' in FAIR, which aligns with the ambitions of the FAIR data and software track part of the Open Science agenda of Utrecht University. #openscience #FAIRdataandsoftware #reuse #metadata #sustainability

🌟 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 🔬 Meet Pierre Baillargeon, Senior Data Architect and one of TetraScience’s SciBorgs—experts in science, data, and technology whose combined expertise helps to accelerate innovation and outcomes for life sciences organizations. When asked which scientist inspires him most, Pierre chose Carl Sagan: "It’s incredibly important that scientists can explain complex concepts understandably and engagingly. His impact on the popularity of science, advancement of scientific education, and championing rational thought have inspired generations of scientists and educators." Who inspires you? Are you contemplating an "open source" scalable data science adoption? If so, have you evaluated the Kubeflow-Kubernetes ecosystem for your scaled ML/AI/Deep Learning requirements? Recent enhancements to Kubeflow project features have made adoption more efficient, and its acceptance by the CNCF, along with increased community support, provides assurance for adopters. Meanwhile, CERN (Large Hadron Collider) is utilising Kubeflow to explore the mysteries of the universe - We’re glad to have followed the same path, providing a contemporary data science platform that serves our community. More info. on CERN's adoption:

💻 What exactly is a #hackathon? 🤔 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 A 𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 is an event, typically lasting several days, where people collaborate to engineer a solution to a problem, build or improve software (or an app), or simply get together to identify new opportunities. The word hackathon is a portmanteau of the words 𝒉𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒓, which means clever programmer, and 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒏, an event marked by endurance. Hackathons usually last more than one day. 💻 Have you heard about the BioMed X Institute hackathon in August? What? 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 When? Ready to push the boundaries of science? Enveda is offering two exciting challenges for the Bio x ML hackathon we're co-hosting with our friends at Lux Capital and EvolutionaryScale: 1️⃣ Enhancing MS/MS Fragmentation Predictions: Leverage our GrAFF-MS model, which uses graph neural networks to predict mass spectrometry fragmentation patterns, or develop your own solution. You'll have access to ~1 million curated MS/MS spectra. 2️⃣ Advancing Molecular Similarity: Develop models that classify molecular similarity, capturing the nuanced perspective of expert chemists. Train your model on larger datasets and fine-tune it with Enveda's curated set of 600 molecular pairs, each annotated by five chemists. 💰 Prize: $10,000 for the best team, plus the opportunity to present your work to, and work with, Enveda’s team. 🌐 Open to participants worldwide. 👣 Make your first steps towards #FAIR (meta)data descriptions, #ontolgy terms and #data deposition and take part in the workshop of the same name at the #NFDI4Microbiota Annual Conference on December 4th. ‼️ Current good science practices require to correctly label the data produced in modern biology. Not only do these labels give context and interpretation during data analysis, but they also allow interoperability between different investigations and potential reanalyses. However, the process of describing your data thoroughly, i.e. adding correct metadata, is not straightforward and can be confusing. Maja Magel from @Thomas Clavel lab at RWTH Aachen University will show you in this workshop how to identify #metadata standards and selecting the minimal amount of metadata necessary to describe your datasets, as well as how to use FAIR terms/ descriptions. When? December 4 in Leipzig | For Free 👉 Interested? Please register here for the workshop and our conferences: https://lnkd.in/e8HHuZx4
