Over 95% of the world’s internet traffic travels through subsea cables. These cables are the unseen backbone of critical infrastructure—and they’re under threat. This article delves into NATO’s plans to safeguard this vital network and the challenges it faces. For critical infrastructure leaders, subsea cable security is more than a telecommunications issue. It’s about: ・National security: Geopolitical tensions increase the risk of sabotage. ・Operational resilience: An attack on these cables could disrupt essential services. ・Collaboration: Securing these cables requires global cooperation. Yet, even with NATO's strategies, the question remains: Are we prepared for sophisticated, targeted threats? Protecting infrastructure extends beyond physical security. It requires cutting-edge technologies, risk assessments, and strong partnerships to anticipate and mitigate these risks. An Iran**n hacker group named Handala has claimed responsibility for infiltrating Isr**l’s Shorak nuclear research center, stealing an alleged 197 gigabytes of sensitive data. The group, believed to have ties to the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), released a statement declaring the successful breach. This cyberattack is being viewed as a retaliation for the assassination of Hez****h leader Sayyed Hasan Nasr*llah, which took place last Friday. The hackers' claim adds a new dimension to the ongoing cyber conflict between Ir*n and Isr**el, raising concerns about the security of critical infrastructure. The breach, if confirmed, could lead to significant geopolitical tensions in the region, potentially sparking further retaliatory actions from both sides. The Shorak facility plays a key role in Isr**l’s nuclear research efforts, making this alleged cyberattack particularly alarming. #OutNow New episode of InFocus with Ejaz Haider #Subscribe to CSSPR YouTube Watch the in-depth and intellectually stimulating conversation between Ejaz Haider and Dr. Stephen Herzog, James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, exploring the complexities of nuclear risks, the challenges and prospects for the revival of arms control, and the evolving dynamics of nuclear deterrence. Dr. Herzog underscored the strategic implications of the expanding number of nuclear-armed states, framing it as a significant challenge in the current global security landscape. On the Russo-Ukrainian war, Dr. Herzog contended that while it is unlikely to trigger widespread nuclear proliferation, there remains a concerning lack of robust commitment by states to the principles and processes of nonproliferation.

Imagine waking up one morning and finding the internet down—not just at home, but worldwide. No banking, no communication, no access to critical services. It sounds like a sci-fi nightmare, but it’s a very real possibility. Undersea cables—the hidden lifelines of global communication—are vulnerable targets. Russia’s advanced submarines have the capability to sever these cables, potentially cutting off entire nations from the digital world in an instant. The implications are staggering. From paralyzing economies to crippling military operations, a coordinated attack on these cables could bring the world to a standstill. Are we prepared for such a threat? Click to learn more about how this silent sabotage could unfold—and the urgent steps needed to protect these critical infrastructures. #CyberSecurity #GlobalSecurity #UnderseaCables #NationalDefense #Geopolitics #TechSecurity #MilitaryPreparedness #Russia #Submarines #GlobalInfrastructure #TechTuesday

One of my favorite classic lessons on security controls was written by Bruce G. Blair in the spring of 2004. Twenty years later it is still fully relevant. And terrifying. Full article available at: https://lnkd.in/eHgipFDd

security threats and appropriate security behavior are not objective facts, but are given meaning through ongoing social interaction, discourse, and the construction of identities. For example, the idea of nuclear weapons as a security threat is not inherent, but has been socially constructed over time through interactions between states, international organizations, and civil society.

I appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with Peter Kant and Enabled Intelligence, Inc on this article to highlight why large language models (LLMs) require more testing to ensure their safety, helpfulness, and truthfulness. This testing requires the evaluation of tone, context, and emotional impact, which are more challenging to test than other types of technological functionalities. We must also understand how LLMs work and how they make mistakes, which are elements that make human testers essential - a fact that many AI companies are reluctant to admit.
Kiersten E. Todt, the former chief of staff of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (#CISA) and a member of our Board of Advisors, has just authored a timely report on effective methods to test LLMs. Important stuff. Thanks to Colin Demarest and Axios for highlighting the report in today's Future of Defense. https://lnkd.in/eEhzkWtW. #LLM #LLMtesting #trustedAI.
