Nuro is branching out into robotaxis and personally owned autonomous vehicles https://lnkd.in/dY9wT6GS Nuro, the delivery robot company created by veterans of Google’s self-driving car project, is taking the bold — and risky — step to expand its business model to include robotaxis and personally owned autonomous vehicles. The California-based company, which currently operates a small fleet of delivery vehicles in California and Texas, doesn’t plan to build the vehicles itself. Instead, it will license its autonomous driving technology to outside companies, including car companies that want to use it for advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) and rideshare operators for robotaxis. Nuro uses hardware provided by major companies like Nvidia and Arm to power its Nuro Driver, the company’s branding for the hardware and software used to power... Continue reading…

The UN is progressing towards internationally-agreed rules for autonomous driving, with globally harmonized regulations expected by mid-2026. The UNECE's World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) and its Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA) working party are spearheading these efforts. Key milestones include adopting guidelines for automated driving systems and regulations for driver control assistance systems. This regulatory groundwork is essential for safely introducing autonomous vehicles to the market. Safety remains the top priority as the technology evolves. Autonomous car rules advancing faster than the vehicles themselves: UN – ET Auto There are five levels of automation, with the lower levels already becoming commonplace. Fully autonomous cars are still years away from hitting the streets, but internationally-agreed rules on their use could be ready by mid-2026, the United Nations has said. Safety concerns and the cost of developing next-level systems have slowed down progress on autonomous https://lnkd.in/gDmKk3Sk

Here's a great article if you are curious about the status of autonomous vehicles in trucking (AVs) - from our Werner Enterprises CIO. AVs will not replace professional drivers. AVs will help them have more at home time and fill the driver roles we can't hire for due to the driver shortage. #Transportation #KeepAmericaMoving #TeamBlue #Autonomous

General Motors announced that it will cease funding the development of a commercial robotaxi business. Instead, the company plans to integrate its self-driving car subsidiary, Cruise, with its own initiatives to enhance driver assistance features and ultimately create fully autonomous personal vehicles. This shift marks a significant change for GM, which acquired Cruise in March 2016 for $1 billion. Since then, GM has invested over $10 billion in the company to advance autonomous vehicle technology through a robotaxi business model. #gm #taxi #robotics #autonomoustechnology #technology #pivot

A very well written article by Daragh Mahon: 1) Truck drivers will be critical to the adoption, integration, and scaling of autonomous trucks! There are over 140,000 warehouses, DC’s, and other locations where trucks move trailers in and out. Truck drivers are critical and will always be a key part to network integration and success. 2) The improvement in work life balance and home time for drivers. How many of us spend just a few days home each month and pay $15 anytime we want to take a shower as we do our jobs? That is the reality for todays OTR drivers. 3) The impact of safety improvement has been documented for the ADAS technology we deployed in recent years. The expectation is for more improvement with AV trucks in the future when it is ready to be deployed. And continued driver involvement to that process is critical!
