💫 We want to introduce you to one of our original "Dreamers" as we continue to share stories in our 25th anniversary year. Sr. Pauline is one of the founders of Gerard Place, often referred to as the “dreamers.” These dreamers, sisters from twelve Congregations of Women Religious in the Diocese of Buffalo, created Gerard Place to house homeless women and their children on the East Side of Buffalo. She has stayed active volunteering in many ways since we opened in 2000. We encourage you to click to read more about this incredible woman and her impact on our organization and community.

🌟 Honoring Juneteenth at Clever 🌟 Tomorrow, we recognize Juneteenth, a day in 1865 when the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas finally learned of their emancipation more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is a day that holds significant meaning in the ongoing fight for Black liberation today. We hope you will spend the day intentionally - whether that be self-education, allyship, or to simply rest and be with loved ones. ➡️ Ways to recognize: We encourage everyone to take actionable steps toward fostering equity. Support Black-owned businesses, donate to organizations that promote racial justice, engage in community service, attend a public celebration, read material on the history of and present day manifestations of systemic racism - particularly for Black communities. #LifeatClever #Juneteenth #DiversityAndInclusion #EquityInEdtech

The very act of taking rest is a revolutionary act. Queer Black Poet Audre Lorde states, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” There is great risk in not taking necessary rest. Chronic stress can spike cortisol levels and put us at risk of anxiety, depression, a lowered immune system, cognitive issues, heart problems, and gut issues (National Institute of Mental Health). Rest and connection regulate cortisol levels and reduce anxiety. Rather than being self-indulgent, rest and connection serve to heal the body by regulating cortisol levels and reducing anxiety. Come join us in J.O.Y. for the body and spirit!

We are proud to have partnered with Crown Family Philanthropies and the Jim Joseph Foundation to publish Jewish Families Today, a study aimed at assessing the experiences of less traditionally-engaged Jewish families. What did we find? Perceptions don't always line up with reality. “There is a popular perception that young Jews today have less interest in forming Jewish community than their predecessors,” Alex Pomson, principal and managing director of Rosov Consulting, told eJewishPhilanthropy. “Against the backdrop of a broader sense of fragmenting community, we found that parents with young children really do want their children to be part of something larger.” With Jewish institutional community being harder to access for low-income, interfaith, LGBTQIA+, and multiracial families, as well as for those living outside the centers of Jewish life, HGF programs like PJ Library are vital. They provide at-home engagement with books and family resources as well as opportunities for enjoying meaningful Jewish activities at home, like through Get Together grants, which help provide resources and funds for building local community. Here at #SerenityAndGraceHealthcare we value you! Baltimore's strength has always been its people, and there's no denying that fact! Black families are the backbone of this city, but far too many are struggling with homelessness. We can't talk about Black empowerment without addressing the crisis of unhoused families. Housing instability disproportionately affects Black Baltimoreans, perpetuating cycles of poverty and limiting opportunities. What can we do? Amplify Black voices: Support organizations led by Black Baltimoreans who are working on solutions. Advocate for change: Demand that policymakers prioritize affordable housing initiatives that address racial disparities. Give back: Volunteer or donate to organizations that provide critical services to unhoused families. Together, we can empower Baltimore's Black community by ensuring that every family has a safe and stable place to call home. #BlackEmpowerment #Baltimore #HousingJustice

Third Sunday of Eastertide (4/14/2024) Showcase volunteer opportunities in church/community-This is a good time to inform the members about the vast number of volunteer opportunities that are available. A list such as the volunteer talent search survey I reproduced in my book “Rebuilding The Kingdom” under “To Preserve The Light” could be handed out and members urged to look it over, pray about how and where God would have them serve, and consider what things they would like to be involved in. The church board could also have representatives of the various committees in the church and representatives of Christian service organizations in the community set up tables with displays in the fellowship hall and be available after church or in the afternoon or evening to talk to those who are interested in volunteering. The members could then mark them on the sheet. A personnel committee could then seek ways to help members carry out what God wants for them. Most churches have a personnel committee of volunteers appointed before the annual meeting to develop a list of officers to be voted on but the church really needs a year long committee of those interested in helping people find ways to use their gifts that gets to know members and the church structure and help people find meaningful areas to serve. Some members can be joined to existing church programs while others could be directed to Christian service organizations. There may be some where there are no existing programs and the church should seriously consider if it should develop those programs.

This Christian homeless ministry has faithfully served its community for 85 years. But if Washington state gets its way, Yakima Union Gospel Mission will soon be forced to lose the Christian character at the heart of everything it does. State officials say the mission must hire employees who don’t share its religious beliefs. But the Constitution protects religious organizations’ right to hire like-minded staff. That’s why we’re representing the mission in a lawsuit against Washington state. Since America’s earliest days, faith-based charity has played an essential role in our communities. We can’t let that end in Washington state. This Friday, July 19, our attorneys will appear before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Yakima Union Gospel Mission. We’re asking the court to uphold the mission’s constitutional rights, so it can continue doing what it does best: giving life-changing hope and help to those who need it most. Learn more about this case, and all our work, at https://lnkd.in/ei9WGf-9
