There is value in recognizing the contributions of team members. . . . It goes such a long way when individuals are recognized for the contributions that they make towards the accomplishment of a collective goal. Yesterday I witnessed what a simple gesture of appreciation can do as I presented small tokens to my colleagues who make up the department I so humbly serve in. Recognizing that every member of a team is different, and thus brings a different quality to the team is a great start. Then acknowledging that difference, and appreciating its contribution to the effectiveness of the team should follow. Their gratitude for a simple but personalized token that speaks of the individual quality that is contributed to the team could not surpass my own satisfaction as I wore the widest smile; a reflection of theirs combined. The value lay not in the token itself but rather the gesture, and the word engraved thereon; a word that described that important quality each brings to the team. I understood the significance of it. To them, it meant I see them; the contribution they make is valuable.

Being successful in your career is not about how much money you make or what job title you have. What makes you successful is growing your team!! Being able to provide a stable environment for them and reaching successes for your company. If it gets to the point where you are no longer valued, your input makes no difference to your company then its time to move on. My question is how do you deal with the fact that you are going to leave the team you have grown? Do you feel it will affect their growth?

Celebrating Team Milestones 🎉 Over the course of my recent roles, I've made it a point to remember my team members' birthdays and work anniversaries (thankfully, HR systems make this pretty easy these days!). I like to take a moment to send a quick note to the team, whether it’s via Slack or another channel, acknowledging these special moments. December is, hands down, my favorite month of the year. Not just because I was born in December, but because it’s the month when our family traditions truly come alive. It all started small—just picking out and decorating the Christmas tree together. Then came the Christmas puzzles, baking sessions, and so much more. When the kids were little, it was easy. They’d help for a bit, get bored, and leave—leaving me to create the “perfect” tree exactly as I imagined it. But as they grew older, something interesting happened. Suddenly, everyone had an opinion. From the type of tree we should get to which colors were “acceptable” this year, it became less about my vision and more about our process. Now, I’ll be honest—my first reaction was to push back. To stick to what I thought was “right.” But then I tried something different. I let go. Instead of controlling the outcome, I focused on the discovery. And what I learned was this: when you allow others to contribute, when you embrace the unexpected, the results can be so much better than anything you imagined. So here’s the takeaway: whether it’s decorating a tree or leading a team, success isn’t about controlling every detail. It’s about creating space for exploration, for ideas to collide and evolve. Because when you let go, you’re not just building something—you’re building together.

Read and learn. This can be said about employees and employers or humans in general.

Regardless of hierarchical relationships, it is always important to express gratitude, even for the smallest things, I honestly believe. Showing appreciation leads to trust. When a trusting relationship is established, team can proceed their task supportively. Without trust, tasks become individualized and unvisialized, leading to a lack of efficiency and productivity. The basis are to honestly express gratitude with each other. We will not face “Slump” situation in our business once expressing gratitude, I believe.
