Healthcare Executives 🏥 During my last conversation with Scott Becker we talked about how rural hospitals can attract doctors/specialists by bringing them “back home” to where they grew up or have roots. The story below is about an extremely talented OB/GYN who moved his 30+ year practice, w/4,000 patients to a 50-bed rural hospital that’s closer to where he grew up. Why did he do it? He’ll talk about less bureaucracy, great nurses, more familiarity and one-on-one time w/patients, less hassle for the patients, less hassle for the physicians, and administration/leadership are appreciative and responsive. https://lnkd.in/gpxqMeuQ

Addressing community health in rural areas requires a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional clinical care, focusing on prevention, education, and collaboration with local stakeholders. Rural communities often face limited access to healthcare resources, transportation barriers, and socioeconomic disparities that impact overall health and wellbeing. Building strong relationships and trust within the community enables rural healthcare providers to better understand and respond to the unique needs of the population. A brilliant insightful article Louise 👏 I think that the only way to counter the systemic government campaign to devalue and dismantle general practice would be for doctors to publicise through media what is actually happening to the health system and the dangers of this for the future. #generalpractice #doctors #healthcare

This is a HOT Topic that is like a third rail; however, I stepped on it anyway. 😬😊 Jen Crow RN, BSN Ever heard of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium or Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium? Today, we dove deep into the complex world of tribal health consortiums and their legal implications, especially focusing on a recent Alaska State Supreme Court decision that affects how tribal health consortiums operate. The court overturned a 20-year precedent, granting these consortiums a type of sovereign legal immunity that shields them from most civil lawsuits in state courts. This decision is monumental because it means that unless a consortium waives its immunity, they are largely protected from legal challenges. Mercy is committed to providing the best possible care to its patients. That's why we rely on Mercy Technology Services (MTS) to support our mission. MTS plays a critical role in pioneering a new model of care by building and managing Mercy's gold star-rated Epic electronic health record, conducting groundbreaking work in data analytics to improve patient care, and ensuring easy access to Mercy services through the MyMercy patient portal, our website, on-site systems, and more. MTS' hard work has paid off. We're proud to announce that MTS was named one of the Most Wired by CHIME. But that's not all. One of MTS' most important duties is ensuring the availability and security of patient health records. That's why we invested $60 million in building a state-of-the-art data center in Washington, Missouri, with fail-safe features that can withstand a variety of natural events, power or water interruptions, and even building failures. Plus, a second data center in Sunset Hills, Missouri, runs every system in parallel to ensure maximum uptime. At Mercy, we believe that better data leads to better care. That's why we've been collecting clinical data for more than a decade. MTS' experts use cutting-edge analytics tools to learn from that data, finding which processes and products lead to better patient experiences. By doing so, we have reduced mortality rates by 50% for patients with heart failure, pneumonia, and colectomy patients. We are also preventing more than 17,000 unnecessary blood transfusions every year and decreasing the time it takes to administer a diuretic to patients with heart failure by nearly three hours. At Mercy, we're committed to providing the best possible care to our patients. And with MTS' help, we're making great strides towards that goal. hashtag #Healthcare hashtag #ITJobs hashtag #DataScience hashtag #Jobs hashtag #Analytics https://lnkd.in/gDAi4X8s

New in Health Services Research from Daniel A Asfaw, Megan Price, Kristina Carvalho, MSW, Steve Pizer, and me: We examined over 3 million specialty care referrals in the VA to evaluate the impact of the VA's 2019 Referral Coordination Initiative on community care referrals and waiting times. We did not observe an effect of the RCI on waiting times or community care referral rates. Our findings do not support concerns that RCI might be impeding Veterans' access to community care providers. https://lnkd.in/eQkBNHUg #Veterans #VHA #accesstocare

The 2025 Palliative Care Queensland Priorities report highlights four key priority areas for next year. Priority 3 is to enhance funding for palliative care services tailored to underserved populations. Underserved populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups, and individuals living in regional and remote areas, continue to face significant challenges in accessing palliative care services. These barriers stem from a combination of geographic isolation, cultural insensitivity in service delivery, and limited availability of specialised care tailored to meet their needs. To address these barriers, it is essential to invest in community education, innovative service delivery models and targeted funding to ensure all Queenslanders have equitable access to quality palliative care.
