Mutual Aid for Those in Crisis Authored by PrideVMC Industry Liaison, Dr. Ewan Wolff, PhD, DVM, DACVIM(SAIM) 🏳️⚧️🎁🏳️🌈 As a result of the current national climate, many folks from marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ people, are in crisis. This includes firming up financial plans, getting married, working on documents, and/or moving. All of this has a significant monetary impact that not all people can absorb. Some logistics can appear impossible to overcome. Since many companies’ crisis funds have not been made available to help with this ongoing national crisis and non-profits have limited resources, mutual aid has become a necessity. Mutual aid is when the community comes together to help people when other aid networks are lacking. This has been an ingrained part of the LGBTQ+ community for many years that reemerges in times like these and it lacks the level of organization that many may be used to seeing. The personal impact however is significant, and this focus is very much on individuals. During this season of gift giving and gratitude, following are ideas that can be utilized to help your friends in crisis. https://buff.ly/3ZMTP6t #give #help #support #vetmedpride #mutualaid

⚡ Excited to see our work at Dreilinden gGmbH featured in Alliance magazine! 📣 Shout out to Claudia Cahalane for taking the time to do a deep dive on the complex challenges faced by #LGBT+ entrepreneurs in the Global South and bringing them to light so succinctly! ℹ️ Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss any of the topics raised in this piece. #systemschange #LGBTQIA* #entrepreneurship #impactinvesting #impactlinkedloans
Around the world, #LGBT+ communities regularly face hostile living and working environments and are less likely to be successful when applying for investment, even though they represent anywhere from around ten to 25 percent of the population. This marginalised group disproportionally suffers from mental health issues, lower life chances and incomes, and the picture is far worse in Low and Middle Income Countries. Germany’s Dreilinden Foundation offers a blueprint for philanthropy that wants to make an impact in this space. Analysis from Claudia Cahalane ⤵

ALBEI believes that embracing diversity in all its forms in the board rooms of Australia will lead to better decision making, better returns for shareholders and an expanded pool of talent to draw upon. The ASX Corporate Governance Council is currently accepting submissons on its proposed corporate governance standards for the next 5 years. We believe that they do not go far enough. In 2015, KPMG Australia advised that "Many of the initiatives designed to address gender diversity may be applied to improve diversity in ‘beyond gender’ areas. This should reduce the lead in time for entities to establish quantitative objectives for broader diversity areas" It is now almost 10 years later and there is still no progress, change is needed. We are working together with other under-represented groups to make progress. Please join us in making a submisison - the deadline is the 6 May. Our full submission and a summary is attached in the link below. Diverse boards bring better decision making, better shareholder returns and a bigger pool of talent to draw upon. Why is Australia so far behind developments in the UK, US and Canada and will not catch up for years? Will foreign investors start wondering why Australia does not have a modern approach to diversity? Why is the ASX Corporate Governance Council not moving the dial on board diversity- are they too timid? Read ALBEI's submission on the proposed Corporate Governance Standards that will apply for the next 5 to 7 years. We believe that policy development needs a strong underpinning of data and research and the Watermark Search International and Governance Institute of Australia Board Diversity Index Report has shown that the dial on diversity has not moved in 10 years.
