Diversity and Excellence in the Boardroom
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to host the second annual Retail, Fashion and Beauty dinner for the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors.
We came together as LGBTQ+ CEO’s, board directors and executives, along with allies, to reinforce the importance of diversity in board rooms.
The combination of excellence, along with diverse lived and learned experiences, drives innovation and performance.
Over the last decade, we’ve seen an unprecedented transformation in board diversity, further reflecting the customer and employee base for many companies.
-Women now represent 33% of board seats
-Black representation stands at 11%
-Hispanic representation is 5%
LGBTQ+ representation is the latecomer to the party—once nearly invisible in corporate leadership, we’ve now reached nearly 1% of Board seats (with nearly 10% of the US population).
This progress didn’t happen by chance. It took advocacy, policy changes, and business leaders who understood that inclusion is not just the right thing to do—it’s essential for innovation and performance.
Thanks to my partner, Fabrice C Houdart, for his vision and leadership.
Thanks to Torrence Boone for his unique perspectives as a Macy's board director.
Thanks to Mindy Grossman for her insights as a woman at the forefront of corporate leadership who has achieved success for herself and the companies she’s worked with including Ralph Lauren, Nike, HSN and WeightWatchers.
And, finally, thanks to our sponsors Wunderkind and Oliver Chen, CFA and Cowen Inc. for their generous support.
Overall, it’s wonderful to come together as community, supporting each other in pursuit of opportunity and excellence.
