#EHF2024 was the perfect opportunity to present my plans for researching Human Performance Metrics in Air Traffic Control with NATS and Transportation Research Group, University of Southampton. Questions from the floor were great: Q. How will you take account of new airspace concepts like Precision Navigation? A. One of the reasons I want to include eye tracking is so that we can understand the impact of new tech like precision navigation on situation awareness and workload. Q. Why did you choose to study en-route rather than airports? A. I've chosen to focus on London Terminal Control as it's the busiest, most complex piece of airspace. I also have a sneaky head start in understanding how some of their systems work, having been involved in their design and assurance. Q. Will you be conducting your study in simulations or in the live environment? A. I will be studying the live environment as controllers tell us that the variability in pilot performance, presentation of traffic and weather in the live environment are significant to human performance.

🔍👁️"Remote Observer essentially serves as my eyes directly at the airport," says Martin Housa, a forecaster of the Aeronautical MET Service Department at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute. "Yes, we do use the images from Remote Observer, and if I may speak for myself, it acts as an extension of my vision, offering a clear visual representation of the situation at and around Poprad-Tatry International Airport (LZTT). This also applies to the camera from Bratislava Airport (LZIB), which is particularly useful during autumn, winter, and partially in spring, as it shows fog moving in from the southeast direction. This is invaluable for a forecaster to observe developing weather conditions and possibly adjust the forecast or consult with ATC and airport dispatch regarding potential low visibility procedures (LVP). Similarly, cameras are excellent for visual identification of thunderstorms or CB clouds. For me, the camera at Poprad is also great for eGAFOR forecasting, as it effectively visualizes the airport's surroundings. I believe my colleagues would share a similar opinion." We’re proud to see how Remote Observer makes a real difference in aviation weather forecasting. 🌍✈️Years of dedicated development and continuous improvement are reflected in the growing impact our product is having across the industry.
