Education and Student Experience, priority 3: Education that is research-informed, transdisciplinary, relevant and with impact for the world; 2. Research and Innovation, Priority 2: A global powerhouse of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Extremely impressed with UoS decision to reduce their equity stake in spinout companies. Throughout history, across the globe, the more extractive the policies and institutions a country has, the less incentive there is to innovate, and thereby the less attractive the risk becomes. Less people make the leap and economies don't grow. When policies are designed to reward innovation, more growth happens, and everyone benefits in the long run. It's the principle behind the west's growth. Conversely policies which don't reward innovation is the reason many nations didn't grow along with us. "Why nations fail" is a great book on the matter and its excellent to see changes in the UK which align with the recipie in the book for sustained economic growth. Here's to a stronger economy.
