#LernerBiz has secured a grant with the Delaware Workforce Development Board to create the Lerner-Delaware Early Career Co-op Program, an exclusive one-year, paid internship/co-op opportunity for rising juniors and seniors in the College. Participating students will gain meaningful work experience, develop their professional network, and apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, all while earning credits toward their degree and receiving monetary compensation from their employers. One of our interns last year asked me a good question: what bad habit did you overcome that helped you most professionally? Frankly, it was hard to choose! Learning from mistakes has become somewhat of a specialty. But the first bad habit that came to mind was this: Worrying. Usually starting around 2am. I do that much less now. In fact, hardly ever. Thankfully, someone a while back enlightened me to the phrase “worrying makes you suffer twice” – and that clicked. Work hard, sure. Do your best, of course. Seek help when needed, absolutely! But if you’ve done all that, worrying isn’t going to get you extra credit. Especially in the middle of the night. There’s more than enough to puzzle out during daylight hours, so give yourself some grace and save 2am for sleep. Avg rent for a studio apt in LA is $1622/mo & avg for a 1 BR is $2068. Let's assume $1300/mo for housing with a roommate situation -- the avg to stay alive in LA is roughly $2,650/mo. To meet this number, you need to make at minimum $16.56/hr If you're making $19/hr for a FULL-TIME role (160 hrs/mo), you're taking home $3,040/mo before taxes. Remove 15% (low) for taxes, and you're at $31k/yr, which means your net average hourly pay is actually $14.91/hr.
