This past month, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a session with Dr. Robert Short, hosted by the Psychology Engagement Team Club at ASU. It was a truly enriching experience that highlighted how psychology can be applied in real-world settings. The session was intimate and interactive, fostering a welcoming environment for students from all levels of interest and expertise. Dr. Short’s approachable demeanor made it easy for everyone to engage, share thoughts, and ask questions. I especially appreciated how he seamlessly blended theoretical concepts with stories from his professional career, illustrating how psychology plays a pivotal role in everyday life. One of the best parts of the event was connecting with fellow students who shared their perspectives on balancing schoolwork and their aspirations in the field of psychology. Networking with peers and hearing their journeys reminded me of the value of building relationships and exchanging ideas. After the session, I had the chance to sit down with Dr. Short for coffee and a deeper conversation. His insights into career development and practical advice were both inspiring and incredibly helpful for the future. Moments like these reinforce the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and seeking opportunities to learn from experienced professionals. The Psychology Engagement Team Club deserves recognition for creating such an inviting space for learning and collaboration. It’s clear they are passionate about their mission to connect students and promote meaningful discussions about psychology. While I’m exploring other clubs and opportunities on campus, this experience has reaffirmed the importance of getting involved and trying new things. ASU offers so many ways to learn, grow, and meet incredible people, and I’m excited to see where these opportunities lead! #Psychology #Networking #StudentLife #ASU #ProfessionalGrowth #CampusInvolvement

The Power of I-O Psychology in Education: Building Stronger Relationships in Schools One of the most important lessons I learned while studying Industrial-Organizational Psychology is this: happy, supported employees create the best results for any organization. Whether in a corporate office, a healthcare setting, or a school, when people feel valued, empowered, and understood, they perform at their best—and everyone benefits. This principle is especially relevant in education. Schools aren’t just places of learning for students—they’re workplaces for principals, teachers, and countless support staff. Yet, when we talk about improving schools, we often focus on curriculum, policies, or HR practices, while overlooking the core of any successful organization: its people. This is where a dose of I-O psychology—not just traditional HR—could make a world of difference. • How do we foster a sense of belonging for teachers and staff? • How do we ensure workload expectations are realistic, preventing burnout? • Are leaders equipped with the tools to inspire, support, and listen to their teams? • Are there clear opportunities for professional growth and development? By focusing on relationship-building and creating systems that prioritize collaboration, recognition, and well-being, schools can not only retain great teachers and staff but also create a positive environment where everyone thrives—including the students. Education is one of the most human-centered fields there is. Let’s not forget the humans behind the scenes making it all possible. How do you see schools supporting their teams better? Let’s discuss in the comments! #Education #TeacherRetention #IOPsychology #Leadership #HappyEmployees

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is hearing from former students as they advance in their careers or pursue graduate studies. Yesterday, I received an email from a student now working towards a graduate degree in industrial-organizational psychology. They shared: "My classes are going really well! I need to thank you because I feel so prepared for almost every topic, from Job Analysis to Organizational Structure. I've received praise for emphasizing the importance of consistency within an organization, but that idea was ingrained in me through your classes." This is what makes education so impactful—it goes beyond the classroom. Students carry the principles, knowledge, and insights gained into the working world, applying them to develop both hard and soft skills. Industrial-organizational psychology, in particular, offers incredibly practical tools for workplace dynamics, helping employees and organizations thrive. It also lays a strong foundation for graduate-level work.

15% of college students are failing before they even start the test. Here's why. 📌Social validation from peers and friends. [American Psychological Association, 2020 & Segool et al., 2013] This hits close to home. As educators and parents, we need to address this because: 1. Anxiety affects performance. 2. Fear of judgment reduces creativity. 3. This mindset can persist into professional life. 4. It affects your overall mental health and well-being. 5. It creates a negative cycle of stress and underperformance. So, what can we do? • Create a supportive classroom culture. • Teach stress management techniques. As leaders in education, we must foster environments where students feel safe to take risks and learn from failures. It's not just about academic success—it's about preparing them for life. 🎤 Your worth isn't determined by test scores or peer approval. #students #education

How do dark personality traits impact a student's future performance and behavior? Personality traits are key predictors of how individuals perform and behave today and in the future. Recent studies highlight that dark personality (DP) traits can begin to manifest in early adulthood, with significant implications for a student's future role as an employee, manager, or entrepreneur. Understanding these traits in students today could be crucial in shaping their future. Dr. Parikshit Joshi, Ph.D, Associate Professor, HR & OB, FIIB, in his latest research - "Dark personality de facto among students: A bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review", delves into these dark personality traits among students, comprehensively analysing their impact on performance and social behavior.
