In the health care industry, we understand lead and major donors are motivated differently than the general public, searching for daring, bold causes that stir the imagination and leave a lasting impact. Donors evaluate with their hearts and their heads. On more than one occasion donors have told us, “We’re looking to do more than just support a cause—we want to join a movement!” This puts tremendous pressure on case statements. This document becomes a messaging tetherball between hospital leadership, marketing, physicians, gift officers, board members, communication specialists and even donors. Varying perspectives and personal goals for this document can be overwhelming. Check out the latest perspectives piece from Accordant's Michael Beall to learn how owning your voice and your case statement can help: https://ow.ly/Hz5250UKUTz #healthcare #philanthropy #casestatement #communications

Grateful engagement (formerly known as the “grateful patient program”) is a strategy that guides health care organizations to proactively engage grateful patients and families in sharing and celebrating stories of gratitude. Grateful patient engagement also allows patients and families to express their gratitude for care through philanthropy. A key success factor is the development of strategic partnerships with key internal allies (such as physicians, clinicians, nursing leaders, service line leaders and administrative leaders) to help identify, cultivate and steward grateful patient and family donors. A successful grateful engagement strategy not only elevates gratitude within health care organizations but also enables a streamlined and robust approach to generating continuous pools of new prospective donors. Therefore, grateful engagement should be embraced by every member of the organization’s development team and should be a top priority for the organization’s daily work. Whether embarking upon your organization’s first grateful engagement strategy or fine-tuning existing efforts, check out this piece from Accordant's Erin M. Stitzel, FAHP, and Debbie Ferguson, CFRE, for five key elements that are essential in guiding your endeavor: https://ow.ly/Ah7Z50SLVyv #healthcare #philanthropy #gratefulengagement #strategy

It is no secret the business of health care is experiencing one of its most tumultuous times in history. There is no shortage of reports on the challenging financial health care marketplace. This creates complexities for the C-Suite, challenging them to successfully operate and navigate through the tumult while also staying true to their organizations’ missions, values and visions. In times of uncertainty and financial challenges, campaigns are a crucial lifeline for organizations seeking to sustain their missions and serve their communities’ health needs. These times also create challenges in building and launching large-scale philanthropy efforts. Accordant’s Wave Campaign™ model was developed during less turbulent times; yet, has the adaptability, innovation and momentum generation needed to navigate stormy weather. This model is case-driven, clinician-partnered, organization-aligned and passion-fueled to meet and exceed donor needs. Wave campaigning is structured to ensure sustained philanthropy. Leadership Akron Signature Class 41 – White Coat Day at Akron Children's Hospital Today, some of my colleagues and I from Leadership Akron Signature Class 41 had the incredible opportunity to step into the heart of healthcare at Akron Children's Hospital for “White Coat Day”. This experience wasn’t just about donning a white coat—it was about stepping into the shoes of healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to serving our community. Leadership Matters in Healthcare Leadership isn’t just about boardrooms and businesses—it’s about standing in the gap where our communities need us most. In Akron, health disparities remain a pressing issue, affecting access to quality care, health outcomes, and overall well-being. As leaders, we must recognize these challenges and take action to support, uplift, and advocate for a healthcare system that serves everyone, regardless of their background or financial status. The Need for Strong Healthcare Systems Hospitals like Akron Children's are on the front lines, providing life-saving care to children and families. But they can’t do it alone. They need our support, our advocacy, and our willingness to serve. Whether through volunteering, fundraising, policy advocacy, or simply spreading awareness, we all have a role to play in strengthening healthcare for our city. Let’s Labor Together It takes all of us—leaders, healthcare professionals, businesses, and community members—to create a healthier Akron. Today was a reminder that leadership isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about showing up, taking action, and making a difference where it matters most. Let’s continue to stand with Akron’s healthcare heroes and work toward a future where every child, every family, and every community has access to the care they deserve. #LeadershipAkron #WhiteCoatDay #HealthcareMatters #AkronChildrensHospital #CommunityLeadership #HealthEquity #StrongerTogether

In the complex world of health care philanthropy, simplicity and linear timelines are rare. With limited resources and budgets, some organizations shy away from focusing energy and resources around advancing a grateful engagement strategy while also trying to campaign, but this must be overcome. The benefits of employing a strategy that combines campaigning and grateful engagement in a coordinated approach can lead to remarkable success in supporting the community. By launching wave campaigns and investing in grateful engagement at the same time, we create a catalyst for philanthropy that surpasses what either strategy can achieve alone. In healthcare, excellence is not just a goal—it's a continual journey. While healthcare professionals work tirelessly to advance patient care, philanthropy plays an equally critical role in shaping the future of healthcare, driving innovation, and improving lives. National Philanthropy Day is recognized worldwide to celebrate philanthropy and those who give. At the SJRH Foundation, we see every single day of the year how donors help provide the resources needed for state-of-the-art technology, research and critical patient services that go beyond what is covered by traditional funding sources. Today's healthcare challenges are complex. However, our donor community continues to fund solutions to these challenges, support our dedicated hospital staff, and invest in continuous patient care and outcomes improvement. Philanthropy in healthcare is not just an act of giving—it's an investment in a healthier tomorrow. And for that, we are endlessly grateful. So on this special day, and every other day of the year, we say THANK YOU. #NationalPhilanthropyDay #ThankYou #MakingADifference #HealthcareHeroes #PhilanthropyMatters
