About us
We are Northwell Health, a nonprofit organization supported by the people and communities we serve. The Northwell Health Foundation is an official 501(c)(3) and the fundraising arm of our organization. Innovation fuels advancement in health care, and at Northwell, philanthropy fuels innovation. Every gift to Northwell Health fuels our ambition to fearlessly disrupt the expected standards. Across Northwell, we believe in the power and potential impact of taking on challenges and going where others won’t or can’t. These beliefs reach across our hospitals, our programs and into our laboratories. They span all the lives we touch, giving us the ability to see people fully and to pioneer solutions to bring the breakthroughs we discover to life. It’s because of this, that we continue to set a new pace for progress, not only in our hospitals and care sites, but throughout our entire medical community. Through the generosity and support of the people in our communities, we are driven to discover ways to push the standards even further to better the lives of every person we touch. We're hiring! After Roderick (Rod) Cushman suffered the first of several heart attacks, his wife, Verena, was always on high alert. Whenever she noticed him experiencing symptoms, Verena would rush him to the emergency department at nearby Glen Cove Hospital. Over the years, the Cushmans grew to rely on Rod’s primary care physician, Joseph Conigliaro, MD, the Manuel H. and Claire Barron Professor of Medicine. Just months before Rod’s passing in 2023 at age 91, the Cushmans expressed their gratitude with a generous $1 million gift in Dr. Conigliaro’s honor to support the academic fund of Northwell Health's Division of General Internal Medicine. Additionally, Rod made another $1 million gift posthumously through his estate to fund a lifesaving cardiac CT scanner within the R. H. Cushman Cardiac Imaging Center in the hospital’s emergency department. 🏥 💙 Learn more about the Cushmans’ generosity at https://bit.ly/4j9cils

Gun violence is the number one cause of death of American children. This national health problem simply must be addressed. I am proud to be part of the team looking to find common ground. We can do better.
The collaboration, thoughtful conversations, and drive of those serving our communities inspired me at Northwell Health’s Gun Violence Prevention Forum. Special thanks to gun violence survivor and activist Amedy Dewey, who shows tremendous courage in sharing her story. Our shared vision—a future in which gun violence is not the leading cause of death of children in the U.S.— transcends politics. The safety and well-being of the next generation depends on it. Infants born prematurely can be hospitalized for weeks or months, making it difficult for parents to always be by their side. Now, parents of premature babies at South Shore University Hospital can stay connected with their little ones 24/7. Made possible by fundraising efforts led by SSUH board member and donor Karen Grando, special cameras have been installed within the neonatal intensive care unit at SSUH to give parents a video view of their infants through a computer screen or phone app. 🍼📱 Learn more about this innovative program at https://bit.ly/4izpyQk

At Northwell Health our strength lies in the connections we create – and it all started with connecting the vision and passion of our donors to the needs of our communities. Whether it’s supporting research that can detect cancer earlier, making world-class mental health care accessible to more people, or addressing health disparities, your generosity and belief in our mission allows us to provide the best care to our patients, families and our communities. 🏥 ❤️ 📽️ INVNT®

"This disease has taken away people I love, and I don't want others to go through that." When Dotty D'Amato lost her best friend of 40 years, Esther Ades, to pancreatic cancer, she was determined to find a way to honor Esther while also helping others in need. Dotty made a $250,000 gift to the Northwell Cancer Institute to establish the Esther Ades Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund to support the work of Dr. Matt Weiss. When another close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, Dotty made an additional $250,000 gift to support Northwell Health's new Center for Women's Cancer at the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center. A huge thank you to the JDJ Charitable Foundation and founders, James and Allyson Blauvelt, for donating these adorable elephant onesies to our NICU babies at Lenox Hill Hospital! 🐘 This special touch honors James's mother, whose favorite animal was the elephant. Each onesie represents a graduation gift for our tiniest patients as they head home. ❤️
