The Lansing Board of Water & Light has an opening for a Construction Manager I - III in our Project Engineering Department, located in Lansing, MI.

Starting Salary Range: CM I: $60,258. - $71,135. / CM II: $66,927. - $79,643. / CM III: $74,367. - $89,278.
Position Summary:
Oversee capital project construction by applying construction principles, design specifications, scopes of work, and contractual agreements. Provide project support, offering guidance on constructability, safety, regulatory compliance, building standards, and BWL policies and procedures.
Basic Essential Functions:
Conducts comprehensive BWL Contractor Safety Orientation for contractor and subcontractor personnel at job sites, in accordance with BWL Safety procedures.
Under close supervision and with frequent check-ins, conducts regular job site assessments and completes basic tasks to ensure:
Regulatory compliance: local, state, and federal construction regulations, permitting and inspections, and advanced safety concepts
Contract compliance with technical specifications and terms and conditions
Adherence to submittal protocols such as change management, equipment documentation, and pay applications
Performs all work on an accurate, productive, and timely basis, using detailed instructions and established procedures.
Works closely with project managers, engineers, and trades utilizing blueprints, site layouts, work breakdown structures, Gantt charts, and other basic project documents to respond to project related issues.
Writes clear, concise project reports based on observations and current regulations. Completes administrative functions within area of responsibility.
Contributes effectively to project and departmental meetings.
Performs all work on an accurate, productive, and timely basis, using detailed instructions and established procedures.
Works on multiple projects at multiple job sites in various operational areas and utilities.
Demonstrates willingness to assist senior staff.
Proactively seeks guidance when needed.
Displays self-control and adaptability when working with others to achieve results. Uses failures to improve rather than blame.
Possesses integrity, initiative, self-leadership, political and cultural awareness, and willingness to learn.
Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment. Experience in the requirements of the MIOSHA Construction Safety Standards as they apply to construction activities is desired.

Required:
Associate's degree in construction management, architecture, utility & energy systems, or other related field from an accredited college or university; construction or utility experience and specializations can take the place of education.
Willingness to pursue certification with Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI) or similar.
Able to perform onsite inspections in rugged environments, document work site activity and conditions, and communicate with project teams.
Possesses basic understanding of specialized concepts related to construction.
Capable of learning construction management principles, processes, and project roles and responsibilities.
Capable of learning and following standards and procedures.
Aware of contract documents, plans and specifications, and contract requirements.
Aware of production plants including ability to follow lock out tag out, hot work permits, etc. Or aware of transmission distribution system assets in the right-of-way, including utility location, coordination with government entities, traffic control, etc.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
Must have experience with Microsoft Office and be able to learn specialized construction management tools (E.g., eBuilder, Procor, etc.) Possesses proficiency with fundamental collaboration tools for real-time communication.
Must have a valid MI driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
CM II: Starting Salary Range: $66,927. - $79,643.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or other related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Education is secondary to experience for this position but will be considered when the candidate is at the lower end of the experience requirements.
Must have a minimum three years of related experience in construction management, capital project management or utility projects. Minimum of one year’s experience with managing construction contracts.
Certification in safety, such as MIOSHA 10 or similar. Additional certification in construction management, such as CHST or CMIT level II or similar.
Possesses proficiency in identifying safety issues or locations where frequent incidents are occurring and ensuring safe work practices
Able to read blueprints, site layouts, work breakdowns, Gantt charts, and other basic project documents.
Able to perform onsite inspections in rugged environments, document work site activity and conditions, and communicate with project teams.
Knowledge of contract documents, plans and specifications, and contract requirements.
Knowledge of production plants including ability to follow lock out tag out, hot work permits, etc. Or Knowledge of transmission distribution system assets in the right-of-way, including utility location, coordination with government entities, traffic control, etc.

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or other related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Education is secondary to experience for this position but will be considered when the candidate is at the lower end of the experience requirements.
Must have a minimum five years of related experience in construction management, capital project management or utility projects, with a minimum three years’ experience with managing construction contracts.
Experience in utility construction projects is highly desired.
Possesses strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
Professional Memberships/Certifications of related field such as MIOSHA 30, are preferred.
Able to perform onsite inspections in rugged environments, document work site activity and conditions, and communicate with project teams.
Knowledge of construction contract types. Capable of communicating contractual requirements and obligations to external project partners and provide actional insights.
Knowledge of production plants, including coordinating work while the plant operates, lock out tag
out, hot work permits, etc. Or Knowledge of transmission distribution system assets in the right-of-way, including utility location, coordination with government entities, traffic control, etc.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
