During his travels yesterday, WDVA Secretary James Bond stopped by the La Crosse County Veterans Services Expo at the Onalaska Omni Center. He visited with and thanked several veteran organizations that partner with WDVA on behalf of veterans, including Irma Inez Doering from Veterans Business Outreach Centers (VBOC) Senior Director, Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation WWBIC. Last October, WDVA awarded WWBIC with an Entrepreneurship Grant for $100,000 to promote veteran entrepreneurs through Guided Business Planning courses and regional small-group seminars, provides laptops and QuickBooks access, and distributes seed money to select participants upon graduation. Thank you to the @LaCrosseCounty Veteran Office and everyone that participated in the expo and who stand with our Wisconsin veterans! #WisVets #WisVetsWomen #VeteranExpo Picture 1: WWBIC – Veterans Business Outreach Centers (VBOC) Irma Inez Doering, VBOC Senior Director and Secretary Bond. Today is Gold Star Spouses Day. Please join the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs as we recognize and honor surviving military spouses whose loved ones in uniform made the ultimate sacrifice while proudly serving our nation. The tradition of the Gold Star recognition traces back to 1918 in World War I when families would affix a gold star over the blue service star flags in their window to signify the loss of a loved one serving in the U.S. military overseas. Please keep our Gold Star families in your thoughts today as we remember the sacrifices made by our military and veteran families. #goldstarspousesday #WisVets #WisVetsWomen #WeRemember
