In a response commensurate to the challenge, Governor Gavin Newsom created the California Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force, bringing together an unprecedented coalition of the best available resources for preventing catastrophic wildfires by creating healthier, more sustainable natural environments. The Governor’s Task Force is a proactive effort that is already showing progress towards long term forest health and safe, sustainable coexistence with fire. #wildfiretaskforce

🌿 New Grant Supports Forest Restoration & Inclusive Outdoor Access The Sierra Nevada Conservancy awarded a $2.3 million grant to the 40 Acre Conservation League to restore forest health on its 650-acre property near Emigrant Gap in Placer County. This project will: ✅ Treat 189 acres for fuels reduction, reducing wildfire risk ✅ Restore tree health & wildlife habitat ✅ Expand inclusive access to nature The 40 Acre Conservation League is California’s only Black-led land conservancy, committed to conserving and restoring lands while ensuring equitable outdoor access for recreation and education. 🔥 USFS & Sierra Pacific Industries Partner to Reduce Wildfire Risk. The U.S. Forest Service announced a $75M Stewardship Agreement with Sierra Pacific Industries to expand strategically placed fuel breaks across California & Oregon. This agreement will: ✅ Add 400 miles of new fuel breaks to the existing 2,200-mile network ✅ Protect communities, reduce wildfire risk, and promote rural prosperity Fuel break locations were selected in partnership with USFS & CAL FIRE to enhance wildfire defense across private & federal lands. President Trump signed an executive order to increase domestic timber production and streamline federal forest management approvals. 🚨 State of Emergency Declared for Wildfire Prevention 🚨 ICYMI: Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency to accelerate wildfire risk reduction projects statewide. This action will: ✅ Suspend environmental regulations as needed to expedite fuels reduction (including CEQA & Coastal Act) ✅ Streamline approval for non-state entities to conduct wildfire mitigation work ✅ Work to expand prescribed fire efforts with state agencies submitting recommendations ✅ Enhance the CalVTP program to support rapid environmental review of large wildfire risk reduction projects These emergency measures will help increase the pace and scale of wildfire prevention, strengthening community resilience and protecting lives. 🔗 More details: https://lnkd.in/gGjvz_9W

🔥 California's Wildfire Resilience Strategy: 25 Key Deliverables for 2025 The Governor's Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force has released its ambitious deliverables for 2025, building on significant progress since our 2021 Action Plan. Our collaborative efforts have yielded impressive results: - Nearly $6 billion invested in forest health and wildfire resilience - Treatment of 700,000+ acres annually, including doubled prescribed fire usage - Streamlined project approvals through exemptions and CalVTP - Over $140 million invested in local and regional collaborative capacity For 2025, we're focusing on five critical areas: 1. Improving home and community wildfire resilience 2. Streamlining regulatory processes 3. Expanding landscape-scale resilience programs 4. Creating sustainable wood products markets and forest sector jobs 5. Building a science-based framework for measuring progress Our 25 key deliverables include accelerating defensible space rules, establishing a comprehensive fuel break network, expanding prescribed grazing, launching a beneficial fire training network, and developing a California Wildfire Data Hub. These efforts represent an unprecedented collaboration between federal, state, local, tribal, and private organizations to increase the pace and scale of wildfire resilience efforts in California.
