  • As a planning forester in Princeton, British Columbia, Jason Carmichael leads a small team charged with managing a range of complex responsibilities – from planning harvest units to building relationships with First Nations partners to navigating ever-evolving legislative and environmental regulations. Though the work can be stressful, Jason’s positive attitude and collaborative approach have earned him and his team the trust and respect of countless people inside and outside of the company. “There are always surprises,” says Jason, who joined Weyerhaeuser 31 years ago. “Every week, something’s coming at us, and it requires a bit of mental gymnastics to see a path through a difficult situation. But there’s also pride in successfully solving a problem – and it’s exhilarating to effectively address a challenge.” Jason’s outstanding leadership and commitment to operational excellence are among the many reasons he was named one of our 2024 Truly Great Award winners. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MeetOurPeople The University of British Columbia

  • More than 400 middle and high school students recently put their knowledge of natural resources and ecology to the test during the North Carolina Coastal Envirothon at our Cool Springs Environmental Education Center near New Bern, N.C. The annual competition, now in its 26th year, featured teams from a dozen coastal counties in the state. At Cool Springs, students also were able to learn about local trees and plants and experience some of Weyerhaeuser’s proud history in North Carolina, where we’ve operated since 1957 and currently own or manage more than 662,000 acres of timberland. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

  • In just under a decade with the company, William Stroud has already contributed his expertise to four teams and three locations. He started in Plum Creek’s Portfolio Strategy & Investments team in Athens, Georgia, before moving to our Seattle Headquarters following the merger in 2016. After working on the Finance & Planning team in Seattle, he moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 2019 to join the Timberlands Finance team. Two years ago, he shifted roles again, returning to the Real Estate team as an Oregon land asset manager. These experiences across multiple businesses, roles and locations have honed his collaboration skills and his ability to approach all people with openness and respect — even when they might have competing interests or perspectives. For his commitment to working together, integrity and inclusion, Will was awarded a 2024 Truly Great Award. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MeetOurPeople

  • Employees and families from our Arcadia OSB plant and Northern Louisiana-Arkansas Timberlands team recently participated in the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana’s 9th annual Empty Bowls event at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe, Louisiana. Attendees received bowls decorated by local artists and enjoyed tasting menus from more than a dozen area restaurants, in addition to live music, a silent auction and more. All proceeds from the event went to support the Food Bank’s hunger relief efforts in the region — a cause our Arcadia and NLAR Timberlands teams have proudly supported for years. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Members of our team recently joined partners from Be Pro Be Proud NC in hosting a mobile workshop at Southside High School in Chocowinity, North Carolina, to teach students about career pathways in the skilled workforce, including in the forest products industry. The event featured Be Pro Be Proud’s custom trailer outfitted with computer simulators and virtual reality headsets that provided students a realistic digital experience for what it’s like to operate heavy equipment, drive a commercial truck, and conduct engine diagnostics and repair, among other things. Our partnership with Be Pro Be Proud, now in its second year, is part of Weyerhaeuser's broader commitment to supporting our rural operating communities. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #BeProBeProud Be Pro Be Proud

  • This week, Weyerhaeuser was again a proud sponsor of the International Mass Timber Conference in Portland, Oregon. Members of our team joined thousands of industry professionals from around the world to network, share and learn about the latest mass timber products, issues and trends. Among many highlights was the inclusion of our own Katie Cava, senior sustainability program manager, on a panel discussing how sustainable forest management and mass timber products together support the forest economy. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MassTimber

  • Kenny Mealey’s passion for safety comes from his care for others. During his 30-year career at Weyerhaeuser, he has built deep friendships with his colleagues and their families, both at work and in the community. Those relationships provide daily motivation for him to continue strengthening the overall safety culture at our EWP plant in Buckhannon, West Virginia, where he serves as safety manager. In his role, Kenny is responsible for improving risk recognition and awareness, conducting audits, ensuring compliance and providing safety guidance at every step of our operations. “Kenny has been at the forefront of the Buckhannon mill’s safety culture journey,” says Brian Chaney, senior vice president of Wood Products. “His passion for safety and his genuine caring for the people there is unmatched.” Read more about Kenny’s commitment to safety, which earned him a 2024 Truly Great Award. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MeetOurPeople

  • During his 50 years at Weyerhaeuser, Don Moore has seen a lot of changes, and perhaps the most important has been the transformation of the company’s safety culture. “When I started, there wasn’t the same safety focus we have today,” says Don, a land-use forester in De Queen, Arkansas. “We were just beginning to realize that not everyone knew how to recognize a hazard or what to do about it.” Don says many of those lessons were learned the hard way. He still gets emotional talking about the death of a coworker in a workplace accident during one of his first years with the company, and others who were lost during his first 25 years on the job. “As the years went by, all the extra attention on safety training and hazard recognition started to pay off,” Don says. “Over the last 25 years, no one close to me has died (on the job). That speaks volumes about where we were and what we’ve accomplished.” Read more about Don’s journey at Weyerhaeuser, which is still going strong even after 50 years. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MeetOurPeople https://lnkd.in/gvePsp5H

As a fourth-generation Weyerhaeuser employee, Leta Smith is no stranger to seeing the Weyerhaeuser name at the top of a pay stub — at least one member of her family has been on the payroll for all but a few of our 125 years in business. “When I was hired on in 2004, I could tell this is where I was meant to be,” says Leta, a compensation program manager at our Seattle headquarters. “I remember sitting in our old headquarters in Federal Way, calling my grandpa to tell him I got hired. He was so proud. My grandma said he almost had tears in his eyes because he knew I’d be well taken care of and would have a good career with Weyerhaeuser.” More than 20 years into that career, Leta still keeps the gold-painted hard hat her grandfather wore while working at Weyerhaeuser on her desk, along with a photo of the two of them when she was a little girl. Learn more about Leta and her family’s proud history with the company. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #MeetOurPeople #WY125 https://lnkd.in/emCpZmGJ
