“It’s a day designed to focus on yourself while enjoying activities with others. The combination of workshops offers enriching opportunities for health and happiness, energy and tranquility,” says Wayne Memorial Community Relations Manager Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN, CDCES. “Plus, a buffet lunch and a chance to win prizes.” Traditionally one of Wayne Memorial Hospital’s most popular annual events, The Women Only Luncheon Symposium, now in its 24th year, will take place on Friday, May 2nd from 8:00am – 2:00 pm at Ladore’s Performing Arts and Recreation Center in Waymart. This year’s program includes a keynote address by Ryanne Jennings, President/CEO of Wayne County Community Foundation. Her presentation, Navigating Hard Conversations: From Theory to Practice, can be applied to many aspects of our lives; business, family, personal views, etc. It’s a topic everyone can benefit from. Sessions include: improving sleep, self-defense, nutrition, to name a few. Enjoy making a craft, enhancing relationships, cookie decorating, and much more. The event is a collaborative effort developed by a WOLS committee which meets to discuss topics and presenters. The event is $60 per person. Workshop sizes are limited, so interested individuals are encouraged to register early. For reservations and information, call (570) 253-8990 or email Jean Tuttle at tuttle@wmh.org.

Wayne Memorial Hospital employees answered the call during March, National Social Worker and Nutrition Month. A donation drive to collect personal care items and cleaning products for the Wayne County Food Pantry was sponsored by the Social Work/Case Worker Department and Nutrition Services. Collection boxes around the hospital were filled with lots of useful and needed products. The drive was initiated by Social Worker Morgan Silfies, and the photo with employees from both departments shows just a small sample of the response from coworkers at Wayne Memorial. The Wayne County Food Pantry is the hospitals first referral source when an individual is in need of food or basic household items. The social work department deals with patients experiencing homelessness weekly in almost all departments of the hospital. According to the PA Department of Community and Economic Development, on any given day over 12,000 Pennsylvanians are known to be homeless across the commonwealth. WMH Social Services Manager Mary Burgio-Terpak, LCSW was not available for the photo but sends out a big THANK YOU to everyone for supporting this endeavor. The 2nd annual Project Search Reverse Job Fair was held at Wayne Memorial Hospital on March 26th. Students were set up in the glass concourse and interviewers were invited to visit and check out prospective employees. It’s a twist on the traditional job fair, with a stationary location for those seeking employment to get the interview experience. The interactive opportunity included each student providing copies of their resume’ for review. Project Search at Wayne Memorial helps challenged youth aging out of high school learn career skills and, hopefully, find gainful employment afterwards. Several of the students have been hired by Wayne Memorial with ready to apply qualifications in several departments.
