On Friday, March 28, our Scranton dental team, including Dr. Caitlin McCarthy, lead EFDA Melika Mokhtari, and dental assistant Drianna Santiago, brought oral health to life at the Taylor Community Library. Big smiles ahead 😁🦷 Thanks to a $25,000 grant from AllOne Charities, The Wright Center can deliver dental care directly to local Head Start kids across five counties, right where they learn and grow. Our dental team will hit the road aboard our 34-foot “Driving Better Health” mobile unit to deliver screenings, cleanings, and oral health education at Head Start locations in Lackawanna, Monroe, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. Big news! We are proud to participate in a multi-year, statewide initiative to improve access to integrated primary and behavioral health care for individuals living with co-occuring mental health and substance use disorders. Thanks to a $4 million federal grant awarded to the PA Department of Human Services, we’ll be advancing the collaborative care model across Northeastern Pennsylvania- helping more patients access whole-person care in one convenient location. We’re celebrating another AHEC Alumni Advocate of the Year nominee, Nicole (Nicky) Sekelsky, CCHW! Nominated by Northeast PA Area Health Education Center AHEC, Nicky's journey exemplifies commitment to service and growth. Nicky joined Northeast PA AHEC as a participant in the RISE program in 2021 and became a dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW) within just a few years. She has volunteered with AmeriCorps, joined the National Health Corps, and worked with the Commonwealth Civilian Coronavirus Corps. Now, as Director of Needs Responsive Outreach at The Wright Center for Community Health, Nicky helps patients navigate health insurance and access vital social services. Nicky continues to inspire by pursuing her associate's degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State while serving as a student board member of Northeast PA AHEC.
