Congratulations to DCS!!
📢 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐂𝐒 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭! This morning, I received a simple WhatsApp message from colleagues at the Department of Census and Statistics in Sri Lanka (DCS), along with a few pictures: "𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒓, 𝒘𝒆 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒕 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑨𝒄𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚." It’s hard to describe the pride I felt reading that. This moment marks the culmination of an incredible effort by so many dedicated people, and I am truly honoured to have been part of it under the auspices of the UN Development Account 13th tranche. Congratulations to DCS on reaching this important milestone. The dedication, professionalism, and vision that went into this draft are a testament to the strength of the institution and its commitment to public service. Let me extend my gratitude to Vibeke Oestreich Nielsen, colleague at UNSD and lead of the project, THOMAS DANIELEWITZ (World Bank), and Madura Chelliah (UN RCO in Sri Lanka) for their invaluable support. The draft Statistics Act is a significant step forward for Sri Lanka. It lays the foundation for a modern and trusted statistical system that can better inform public policy, improve governance, and empower citizens with reliable data. This is more than a law. It is a commitment to evidence-based decision-making, modernization, and greater accountability — values that will shape Sri Lanka’s future in meaningful ways. #SriLanka #Governance #PublicPolicy #OfficialStatistics #SDGs #DataForDevelopment #DCS #UNDevelopmentAccount #UNStats #UNSD #UN
