Back in February, the Collaborative on Citizen Data went to Bogotá, Colombia, to co-host the workshop “Data in Action: Connecting with Citizens through Data” with Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística - DANE Colombia. 📈🌎 Over two days, 80+ participants from civil society, government agencies, and representatives from the national statistical system engaged in interactive sessions highlighting the transformative power and importance of citizen data. Colombia is setting an example for other countries by pioneering a maturity model that will support the integration of citizen data into the national statistical system, aligned with the standards of the Copenhagen Framework. This is an excellent case of how collaboration between civil society and national statistical offices can pave the way for stronger, more inclusive data systems. 👏 A special thanks to DANE’s Citizen Data Base Group, Colombia’s civil society organizations, and other participants driving this work forward.

How are national statistical offices (NSOs) working with communities to generate more inclusive and impactful data? On Wednesday, March 26, the Gender Data Network hosted an interactive event on the practical application of citizen data and the revised Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data. Our United Nations Statistical Commission side event, "Partnership for Impact: NSOs and the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data", brought together National Statistical Offices (NSOs), civil society, and global data leaders to explore how NSOs are integrating citizen data into their systems. During the panel, all discussions focused on something critical: citizen data is more than an alternative data source; it is also a tool for inclusion and a community-driven strategy to strengthen data systems. This is one of the many elements of the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data, which was endorsed at this year’s Statistical Commission. 📢 From March 10-13, we partnered with Kyrgyzstan’s National Statistical Committee and UNSD’s Data For Now initiative to host the workshop “Co-creating the Future: Citizen Data and Participation in Kyrgyz Republic’s 2025 Voluntary National Review” in Bishkek. The workshop’s objective was to introduce the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data, strengthen collaboration between civil society organizations (CSO) and the National Statistical Committee (NSC), and identify areas of stronger collaboration between the NSC and CSOs alongside the data value chain. Discussions focused on better coordination, aligning data collection with NSC quality standards, and developing a concrete action plan for sustained partnership.    In the end, a roadmap was developed to strengthen collaboration between civil society and the Kyrgyz Republic’s National Statistical Committee for SDG monitoring, which envisioned: 📌 A platform for coordination and interaction between CSOs and NSOs 📌 Improved communication channels 📌 Capacity-building initiatives  📌 Opportunities for CSOs to contribute to official statistics   If you're interested in learning more about the roadmap, and our in-country workshops that develop more inclusive data practices by connecting NSOs with CSOs please reach out to citizen.data@un.org.
