Reimagining Land Governance — From Vision to Action In a development landscape long dominated by Global North paradigms, #landgovernance has often been approached through the lens of formalization - emphasizing titles, registries, and market integration as the primary pathways to stability and growth. This model frequently overlooks the legitimacy and resilience of customary systems, and can deepen inequality or displace vulnerable communities. As we build Vastpoint, our mission is to reimagine #landgovernance from the ground up - working with, not over, local systems; recognizing legal pluralism; and co-creating fit-for-purpose solutions directly with communities. We ensure this vision is lived out with boots on the ground, engaging stakeholders at every level. By bridging traditional and formal governance and aligning impact with cultural, social, and ecological realities, our goal is to uphold dignity, strengthen resilience, and foster shared ownership of development outcomes. This past week, we were honored to take part in the official PRESFOR project launch in Duékoué, Côte d’Ivoire, financed by the World Bank. Representatives from all villages from the Guémon region gathered to celebrate the start of this 42-month initiative. Local officials emphasized the critical role of communities in shaping and owning development outcomes. This is #landgovernance, reimagined—and in action. #LandRights #InclusiveDevelopment #CustomaryLand #PRESFOR #Vastpoint #CotedIvoire #Resilience #CommunityDriven

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters, This year, I am taking on the Sydney Marathon—my 7th World Major Marathon—not just as a personal challenge but as a mission to fight one of the toughest battles in medicine: pancreatic cancer. I'm taking on this challenge to support Pankind, an organisation dedicated to improving outcomes for people impacted by pancreatic cancer—a cause that means so much to me. Running a marathon is tough, but it is nothing compared to the fight pancreatic cancer patients endure every single day. Please join me in this journey—every step I take, and every dollar raised, will go toward giving hope to those who need it most. Thank you for standing with me—I truly appreciate your support. https://lnkd.in/dq-ehchn

🌍 📢 Calling the community of GIS practitioners Valrie Grant, MSc, GISP, MBA, GCB.D is conducting research in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on geospatial information management and sharing in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). To this end, she has designed a survey that seeks to understand the key barriers and factors influencing the adoption of a National Geospatial Information Management Framework (NGIM) in these regions. 👉 What is NGIM? It is a coordinated framework of policies, standards, and technologies that facilitates the collection, management, and sharing of geospatial data across sectors such as government, academia, the private sector, and civil society. This framework has the potential to transform decision-making and address critical challenges in SIDS. ✨ Your input is critical. With each participation, you will help identify key challenges, barriers, and opportunities to improve geospatial data management in SIDS, contributing to future policies and strategies. 📋 Survey details: Estimated time: 20 minutes Deadline: 19 December 2024 Anonymous and confidential Access the survey here: https://lnkd.in/dw6fxbAk In addition, we would be very grateful if you could share this publication with other geospatial professionals in SIDS. In this way, together we can make a positive impact on geospatial information management. #GIS #Geospatial #Research #SIDS #Sustainability #DataManagement

Chaired by 𝗗𝗿. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse, Chair of UN-GGIM: PSN, the panel included: - Mr. Nikhil Kumar, President Association of Geospatial Industries (AGI) - UN-GGIM PSN Member - Ms. Ananyaa Narain, VP, Geospatial World, UN-GGIM PSN Member - Prof. Dr. R. Vidhya Mathivanan – Director, Institute of Remote Sensing, Anna University Chennai, UN-GGIM Academic Network Member - Prof. Dr Thatiparthi Vijaya Lakshmi – Professor Geospatial at JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad – represented by ISDE, UN-GGIM Geospatial Societies Member - Christopher Fowler – Esri Singapore - UN-GGIM PSN Member Rapporteur for the session was Ms. Megha Datta, Senior Consultant, Woolpert Asia-Pacific - UN-GGIM PSN Member. The panel Key takeaways from the session include: 📌 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫: Opening of geospatial sectors through liberal policies has driven the need to establish Geospatial Digital Public Infrastructures like #UnifiedPaymentInterface. Private sector contributions to planning, execution of standards, data aggregation and providing platforms and hubs are vital. 📚 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Curriculum alignment with industry needs and experiential learning centers are critical. Skill programs like the Tamil Nadu Government’s 𝗡𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 bridge critical skill gaps, involving and benefiting all stakeholders. Formal education remains essential for deeper domain understanding. Simplifying geospatial messaging is important to attract young talent. Stakeholders need to engage students early, showcase success stories, and simplify geospatial communication. 🏢 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲: Geospatial Societies can collaborate with the academia and private sector to drive curriculum reform, establish experiential learning centers, and influence policy making. Private sector must invest in technology-enabling centers and contribute to socially relevant projects through innovative application of modern technologies. 🌐 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: U.S. NSDI Vision 2035, UK Geospatial Commission, and Australia’s socio-economic geospatial studies exemplify how private sector played a crucial role in informing policy development and strengthening frameworks.
