Umbra's Chief Operating Officer, Todd Master, will speak at the 40th Space Symposium on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:15 am. His panel, "Bridging the Gap: How to Actually Integrate Commercial Services into Space Operations," will address the practical integration of commercial services into space operations. In a recent Payload article, The State of EO 2025, Todd Master noted, "I think the rubber is really going to meet the road. A lot of interesting tech got put into space. The question now is what of that data actually is needed by customers—that customers are willing to pay for?" Umbra will also exhibit at the symposium, booth #310. Attendees are encouraged to talk with Todd and the Umbra team about the future of space operations.

Big news! Umbra has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)! This partnership allows us to work closely with NGA, aligning our advanced SAR & RF technology with mission needs to improve resiliency, readiness, and data collection. By combining our expertise, we’re pushing the limits of commercial GEOINT and strengthening national security. We’re proud to support NGA’s mission and continue delivering high-resolution SAR data with speed and precision! Read More: https://lnkd.in/gHwsxc7u

One reason satellite imagery providers avoid creating a real open data program is to hide the actual performance of their satellites vs. their marketing content. As anyone who has purchased satellite imagery before knows, more often than not you are in for a rude awakening when you open that first file... Another reason they avoid releasing open data is to mask the difference between the number of satellites they have in orbit vs. the number that actually work. I think this is the bigger open secret. My advice: ask for a sample image from every single satellite they have available to task from within the last week before committing to anything. It should be a simple request to fulfill, but you'll be surprised by the excuses you hear... Open data is the key to growing this industry and reaching our full potential as a force for good in the world. All of us on the data provider side know that we've only barely scratched the surface of what is possible with space-based remote sensing data. It's a shame we let vanity get in the way of progress. Friendly reminder: Umbra is exactly who we say we are. Our pricing is on the website. Our licensing is free and open. If you're wondering how our actual data compares to our marketing material, or how many of our satellites in orbit actually work, I encourage you to take a look for yourself. Our open dataset is larger than all other providers combined and growing daily for a reason: https://lnkd.in/gYhDffuP
