What a pleasure to host a live recording of the Inevitable podcast at UCLA Anderson School of Management with Cody Simms of MCJ and guest Patrick Maloney of CIV during this year’s LA Climate Week! A big thank you to everyone who joined us! We loved seeing our community come together to listen, learn, and connect at the networking happy hour. Grateful to be part of such an inspiring week for climate action in LA. 🌎✨ #LAClimateWeek #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ClimateEntrepreneurship
As part of the Climate Tech Entrepreneurship course, this week I had the chance to attend an LA Climate Week event hosted by the UCLA Anderson Center for Impact, featuring a live podcast recording from MCJ Collective’s “The Inevitable”, hosted by Cody Simms, with Patrick Maloney, Founder & CEO of CIV. 🌍 His reflections on energy, climate innovation, and investing really stuck with me. 🔑 Key Takeaways: 🔹 Be a Practical Activist: In a world where legacy energy giants still dominate, coexist to create change. Maloney pitched his startup Inspire to Shell—not by compromising his mission, but by speaking their language. Even in climate tech, unit economics matter. Know your audience and drive impact from within. 🔹 AI Needs a Lot of Energy: The AI revolution is just beginning—and it’s highly energy-intensive. climate entrepreneurs must lean into this shift and redefine how we power the future, sustainably and at scale. 🔹 Scalability matters: While deep tech holds promise, Maloney’s current investment thesis favours solutions that are practical, deployable, and growth-ready. Innovation is only as valuable as its ability to scale—especially when the climate crisis can’t wait Feeling inspired by this intersection of business, innovation, and climate action. Grateful to be learning in spaces that challenge and expand my perspective. #ClimateTech #Sustainability #BuiltEnvironment #ImpactMBA #UCLAAnderson #GreenMaterials #ClimateInnovation #AndersonImpact #LAClimateWeek #UCLAAndersonSchoolofManagement

What an amazing way to represent Anderson Venture Impact Partners and at this year's The Turner MIINT (MBA Impact Investing Network & Training) competition! Congratulations to the team: Theo R., Jolie Nguyen, Rohit Srinivas, Xinrui Xue and Evan Schwartz, for successfully representing UCLA Anderson School of Management and earning the "Audience Choice Award"! 👏🏼 #ImpactInvesting #CommunityDevelopment #Housing #PurposeAndProfit
I enjoyed an impactful experience representing Anderson Venture Impact Partners at The Wharton School during The Turner MIINT (MBA Impact Investing Network & Training) Investment Committee Competition semi-final and final. Although our Housing / Community Development vertical only secured an "Audience Choice Award" instead of the top 🏆, we appreciated the opportunity to conduct extensive financial and impact due diligence before passionately pitching Kit Switch for the $50K investment prize. We concluded that Armelle Coutant and Team successfully balance purpose and profit with their quick, repeatable, and sustainable modular interiors for multifamily developments, which install 50% faster, reduce costs by 30%, and lower carbon emissions by 20% compared to traditional interiors. Thank you to UCLA Anderson Center for Impact Tina N. Castro, CFA Jason Lee Anil Tammineedi Ada Arevalo Tom Woelfel for all your support and guidance over the last six months, AVIP Co-Presidents Bradley Ni Joao Aguiar for joining us at MIINT, and my Housing / Community Development teammates Jolie Nguyen Xinrui Xue Rohit Srinivas Evan Schwartz for all the great collaboration!

We are deeply grateful to Business Finland for being an exceptional partner for this year's Energy Innovation Conference! Their support not only elevated the conference through their sponsorship and adding expertise to the insightful discussion on tech-enabled sustainable solutions, but also fostered meaningful connections by hosting a Partners Reception for speakers and other sponsors ahead of the event! In case you missed it, check out the conference recap video here: https://lnkd.in/gTJ3KA4v And see Katja Kotala's takeaways and reflections in her thoughtful post below. UCLA Energy & Cleantech Association UCLA Anderson School of Management
Business Finland was proud to be a partner for UCLA Anderson School of Management and UCLA Anderson Center for Impact at the 2025 Energy Innovation Conference! 🙌 Finland has a long-standing relationship with UCLA. Especially after the disastrous wildfires at the beginning of the year, we were glad to be an integral part of this event bringing together the local community. We hosted the Partners Reception and had an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about recovery and resilience with an impressive group of speakers. My main takeaways, where Finland has expertise and is a potential partner: 🌟 Public-Private Collaboration: Partnerships between businesses, governments, and non-profits can drive innovation to new heights. 🌎 Leveraging Major Events: Events like LA28 are golden opportunities to push for sustainability. Let's not waste them! 💪Community Strength: Real change happens when communities unite. Top-down decisions alone aren't enough. Representing Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere, we had Dr. Anniina Autero speaking about the way smart cities in Finland use AI and technology to enhance their resilience and prepare for risks, whether related to climate or unforeseen security threats during major events. Tampere does this with a well-established collaboration with private sector and the results speak for themselves. Warm thanks to UCLA for the continued collaboration and well executed event, and speakers for your insight! Last week, we hosted another one of our High Impact Tea speaker series at UCLA Anderson School of Management - an insightful conversation on social impact consulting, bringing together expert consultants and their actual clients to discuss what makes these partnerships truly successful. 📽️ IKYMI – here’s the recording of the session: https://lnkd.in/gbnG_vz4 And here’s the gallery: https://lnkd.in/gS5Qxxsf 💡 Some of our takeaways: 🔹 Beyond Transactions – The best consultant-client engagements transform into real partnerships built on trust, listening, and shared investment in the outcome. 🔹 The Consultant’s Role – A great consultant: ✅ Brings the right stakeholders to the table ✅ Provides focus amid complexity ✅ Leverages untapped opportunities and asks the tough questions 🔹 Fluent in Two Worlds – Consultants must speak both business and social impact languages to navigate dynamics effectively. 🔹 Steering the Ship – Change takes time, and consultants help guide the process while adapting along the way. After an inspiring panel discussion, we continued the conversation with a networking reception, fostering connections that will hopefully spark new collaborations! A huge thank you to our incredible speakers and engaged audience. Here’s to building partnerships for long-term, meaningful change. Shaping the Future of Social Innovation Education 🌍📚 For 20 years, UCLA Anderson School of Management has been embedding impact into business education—integrating it into courses and capstone projects that connect MBA students with nonprofits and social enterprises. We believe business schools have a unique opportunity to shape leaders who can drive meaningful change. But what should Social Innovation Education look like? In her latest article, Professor, and our Center's advisor, Gayle Northrop explores this question, highlighting that while many business schools offer courses in social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and ESG, there is no clear standard for what SIE should include. As business schools continue shaping the leaders of tomorrow, defining a cohesive approach to Social Innovation Education is key. 📖 Learn more in Professor Gayle Northrop’s research - read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gxwtMwCt Catalyst Now Graduate School of Business - University of Cape Town #SocialImpact #LeadershipForImpact #BusinessForGood #UCLAAnderson #SocialInnovation
