Is Medicaid really at risk? Here’s what you need to know. Some members of Congress say they won’t cut Medicaid, but their budget plan directs a committee to find $880 billion in “savings.” This is not possible without directly impacting Medicaid. That means people with disabilities could lose the health care and services they need. There is a lot of misinformation about Medicaid cuts, so we set the record straight in our new blog: https://lnkd.in/ekfZmQ2p #ProtectMedicaid

We've been sounding the alarm, and the fight is just beginning. The Senate may vote this week on the next steps to cut Medicaid, threatening the health care and services that people with disabilities need to live their lives. These cuts would be devastating—and we can’t let them happen. The more people take action, the harder it will be for Congress to ignore us. Tell your members of Congress: No cuts to Medicaid! Act now: https://bit.ly/426EwrL #ProtectMedicaid

On World Autism Day—and every day—we celebrate the incredible strengths, talents, and diverse experiences of the autistic community. Autistic people bring so much value to our world with their unique perspectives and capabilities. Autism is a neurological difference that impacts how people experience and interact with the world around them. There is no one way to be autistic. As many in the autism community say, “If you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person.” Some may need little to no support, while others require more comprehensive services and accommodation throughout their lives. Let’s accept, embrace, and provide opportunities for all autistic people to thrive! An inclusive world benefits us all. Today, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Senator Bill Cassidy, Congressman Danny K. Davis, and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick reintroduced the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act—a long-overdue fix to outdated rules that keep millions of people with disabilities in poverty. Right now, SSI’s asset limit hasn’t changed in over 30 years. But everything else has gotten more expensive: rent, food, cars, you name it! Yet people on Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI) are still stuck with the same $2,000 limit, making it nearly impossible to save for emergencies or the future. This bi-partisan bill would finally update those limits, empowering people with disabilities to earn money and save for the future. Tell your lawmakers to pass this bill today: https://bit.ly/4hWsBkL #UpdateSSI

Not all the news is bad this week! In a major win for disability rights, a federal court just struck down key parts of Texas’s voter suppression law, S.B. 1, ruling that it illegally disenfranchised voters with disabilities. The Arc played a leading role in this case—The Arc of Texas was a key plaintiff, bringing forward powerful witnesses, and The Arc US led the disability legal team. This victory isn’t just about Texas. It’s a message to every state: barriers to voting for people with disabilities violate the law. The fight for the rights of voters with disabilities isn’t over—we’re in it for the long haul. Read more: https://bit.ly/4hzAFrG
