Paul Weiss and other law firms making a deal with Trump have been vilified by alumni, associates and others in the legal community, with some claiming the deals invite further bullying of the legal industry. But others, including law firm chairs, say the deals make sense, considering what was at stake for each firm and what they say have been reasonable deal terms. “I would have done what they did,” one AmLaw200 firm leader said. “Unabiguously so. … the people who run these firms are the fiduciaries responsible for them. You have a responsibility to make it [the executive order] go away.” https://lnkd.in/ereq3n72

As a deadline nears for 20 law firms to respond to an EEOC letter about their diversity practices, several have retained top litigation powerhouses as outside counsel. Bill Burck, partner at Quinn Emanuel, is representing nearly 10 firms, according to a source familiar with the matter. Gibson Dunn is also representing firms in relation to the letter, sources say. https://loom.ly/sIpBa20

Citing the fact that all of the firm’s practices “performed well,” Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP saw its revenue jump 24% in 2024 while its profits per equity partner shot up 19.1% in one of the strongest financial years the firm has seen. “It was a good year,” firm chair Alden Millard said. “But what’s important, from my standpoint, were the head count increases. We were up 9% overall. We don't grow for growth’s sake, but we wanted to steadily increase the talent levels across our equity and income partnership as well as our associates. It’s a testimony to the health of our business that we can grow and create more opportunities for our people.” https://loom.ly/V9_5avE
