"If it does not rain on you, you will not grow." – Eliane Hakam- Frontline Campaign Manager, Taproot Earth 🌱 Last week in Rome, CIDSE—represented by Nicky Broeckhoven and Winnie Nalubowa—had the privilege of joining Taproot Earth and frontline community leaders for a powerful convening on #globalclimatereparations. Together with Catholic Church leadership, Black and Indigenous Catholic frontline leaders, and key stakeholders, we came together to advance a shared vision of healing, repair, and justice in the face of the climate crisis. Rooted in the spirit of #Jubilee, the convening was a space for deep reflection, truth-telling, and action. We listened, learned, and built solidarity, centering the voices of those most impacted. 🌿 Key Takeaways from the Convening:  🔹 Acknowledging harm & embracing repair—discussing debt cancellation, reparative climate justice investments, climate migration, and land stewardship.  🔹 Building solidarity & relationships—connecting through inspiring community visits and shared experiences.  🔹 Honoring ritual & rest—taking time to reflect, celebrate, and deepen bonds.  🔹 Charting the path forward—identifying areas for action and leadership on climate reparations within the Church. As we move forward, CIDSE remains committed to walking this path alongside partners and faith communities, advocating for climate justice and reparations. The work continues! ✊ 🙏 Thank you Taproot Earth for such an incredible gathering and to keep elevating the voices of local leaders to move forward climate action! #GCRJubilee #GlobalClimateReparations #TaprootEarth

While I mostly talk about my work as a UX/UI designer here on LinkedIn, I’m still working as an interpreter. Last week, I had the opportunity to join an incredible team of interpreters in Rome for Taproot Earth’s Jubilee Convening—an event bringing together frontline climate activists from the Americas and the African Continent to share experiences and build strategies for their communities. I’ve been interpreting for Taproot’s online meetings for over a year, but being there in person was a completely different experience. It was an intense week, full of unexpected challenges—very different from my usual setup, where my cat is my only workmate. Thankfully, I was surrounded by skilled and supportive colleagues who made all the difference. Now that I’m back in Vienna, the experience feels bittersweet. But I know I’ve returned as a better interpreter—and a better person.

Changing the world one conversation at time Climate Action | AI for Nature | Equitable Transition | Planetary Prosperity

🫶🏾 Francesca Conti Valeria Coppola Vera Panno Tatiana Kalil Camila Aimbiré Francesca Lo Truglio Alessandra Veppi Vanessa Urbina (ella/she/her) Clarissa Bottos Eleonora Canini Natacha Zamor #Interpreting #ClimateJustice #GlobalConnections #Gratitude

Climate justice isn’t just about what we do, but how we do it; together.   In the first week of March, I had the privilege of attending the Taproot Earth  #GCRJubilee #globalclimatereperations Convening in Italy,Rome and it was a transformative experience starting from the communication with the logisitics team who were facilitating Delegate attendance prior to the convening . This convening was rooted in interconnectedness, deep solidarity, and the patience to truly listen to one another and the willligness by all present to connect with each other.Language is often a real barrier for solidarity and sharing expriences , this convening provided live translations for mulitple languages which I really appreciated .It truly was a space where dialogue felt alive , where we’re did not just talking AT each other but WITH each other. In an urgent moment like this, the way we gather matters just as much as the solutions we seek. Showing up with intentionality, humility, and a commitment to real solidarity can transform how we address the greatest challenge of our time. I was also happy to connect with such a diverse group of African Leaders. My deepest gratitude to the Taproot Earth team and their partners and the conveners of this space Colette Pichon Battle and Anthony Giancatarino II #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction #taprootearth #Solidarity #Leadership #Sustainability

GRIÔ do FUTURO I Facilitadora I Palestrante e Especialista em Liderança, Saúde Mental (e integral) e Criadora do Programa ECO - Líderes do Futuro e do Círculo de Sensibilidade para empresas I Speaker TEDx I ForbesBLK

In August 2024 ,I had the privilege of actively participating in the Taproot Earth Global Climate Assembly in Nairobi ,Kenya. This Convening brought together #frontlinecommunities to collectively define what #GlobalClimateReparations means for those most affected by the climate crisis. In March 2-6th We gathered Yet again in Rome but this time with the Catholic Church to advance Global Climate Reparations guided by the GCR working statement. The Jubilee Convening provided a unique space for frontline leaders working in #Climate Change, #Energy, #Water, #land, #Finance and #Democratic Governance and #CatholicChurch representatives to engage in deep dialogue, working towards healing, repair and justice for both people and the planet. The convening focused on key areas for collective liberation 1️⃣ Debt Abolition & Reparative Climate Justice Investments 2️⃣ Climate Migration & Displacement 3️⃣ Land Stewardship & Care for Creation During the convening we recognized and acknowledged that the Church has past and present roles both the harm caused and the opportunity to advance repair and restoration of the harms through moral leadership in climate justice context and human rights and now replicating those solutions in our Communities. Beyond #climatereparations, I had the opportunity to learn about organized crime such as The mafias during our community Visits which have been prevalent in Italy, especially in the southern part of the country and particularly its Impact on youth social life. Hearing the courageous stories of those fighting against these networks and the role of #youthempowerment initiatives through #education and #communityprograms to combat such crimes was really inspiring. Grateful to Taproot Earth team for creating this well curated beautiful space for the church and #frontlinecommunities to connect learn and build solidarity in pursuit of climate justice. The work is far from over but such intentional connections and shared visions for justice reaffirms this fight requires all of us. The forces MLK dedicated his life to resisting — racialized capitalism, systemic exploitation, and militarism — are the root causes of the climate crisis we resist every day. Honoring Dr. King’s legacy means moving beyond shallow quotes and reactionary platitudes. To carry forward his work, we have to engage with the radical political analysis that guided his fight for justice. MLK understood that the struggle for civil rights was inseparable from economic justice, anti-imperialism, and global solidarity. And he didn’t walk his path alone. He organized alongside Southern Black women, queer revolutionaries, and radical thinkers (Ella Baker, Dorothy Cotton, Jo Ann Robinson, Diane Nash, and Bayard Rustin and more) whose work birthed the movements we inherit today: powerful, community-rooted legacies of resistance that confronted state violence, capitalist exploitation, and imperialist war. As we employ his memory in our struggle toward climate justice and the Liberation Horizon, we invite you to remember the fullness of Dr. King's work — honoring not just his dream, but his demands. #MLKDay #MLK #RadicalMLK
