SurvWest recently enjoyed the opportunity to conduct a topographic survey and QLA SUE services for Superbloom in support of The City & County Building Landscape Transformation Project. This exciting project will convert the existing non-functional bluegrass turf around the building to a diverse ecosystem of native grasses and wildflowers, which will not only beautify the area but also conserve water. These water conservation goals will also be achieved by replacing the current irrigation with a more efficient system, drastically reducing water use in that area from 1.2 million gallons a year to 670,000 gallons. In celebration of Engineer's Week, we recognize Daryl D. Schauer, P.E., a Professional Engineer licensed in Texas and Colorado, for his outstanding contributions during his five years at SurvWest. Notably, he successfully managed the recent rehabilitation of Runway 17R/35L at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, completed in Fall 2024. This runway measures 13,400 feet in length and 200 feet in width, and it was completed ahead of schedule with no recorded safety incidents. As the Senior Project Manager, Daryl oversaw all SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) tasks, including project record management, field designations, survey file production, vehicle Airport Operations Area (AOA) permitting, AOA Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badging, and ROCIP screening and safety training for company staff. Daryl faced the challenge of minimizing taxiway and runway closures and reducing impacts on existing airport operations. He addressed these challenges by coordinating SUE Quality Level A/B field designating and test hole staff with SUE Quality Level A/B field survey staff simultaneously when access to necessary SUE fieldwork areas was unavoidable.
