About us
Stony Brook Medicine expresses our shared mission of research, clinical care and education – a mission embraced by our faculty, staff, researchers, and students. It is the embodiment of everything we do on behalf of the health of patients – not only here in our community, but also in the region and worldwide. Stony Brook Medicine comprises five Health Sciences schools — Renaissance School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Health Technology and Management, School of Nursing and School of Social Welfare — as well as Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and more than 200 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County. Our health sciences schools work in tandem with our research and clinical care teams to deliver the best ideas in medicine to patients. As an academic medical center, we are all about ideas. Creating them. Nurturing them. Protecting them. Challenging them. Improving them. Teaching them to others. And most importantly of all, delivering them to patients and their families – sooner, smarter and better. An “idea” can be a new treatment protocol, best practices, a bright new researcher we’ve brought in from another institution, the convenience of an outpatient clinic, or simply a more user-friendly way to access our medical care. On Saturday, April 5, the #Southampton Hospital Foundation, Southampton Hospital Association and Stony Brook Medicine hosted a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to honor all those whose donations and efforts contributed to the building of the #StonyBrook East Hampton Emergency Department, which will open later this spring. This facility will provide access to emergency care for residents and visitors of #EastHampton, #Montauk, #Amagansett, #Springs, and #SagHarbor. We are grateful to the support of our donors for making this project possible and look forward to welcoming the community when the doors officially open. This state-of-the-art facility will be operated by an experienced staff of Stony Brook Medicine emergency professionals and demonstrate Stony Brook’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality #healthcare throughout the East End, ensuring a healthier future for our community, today. Dr. James Barsi, assisted by Dr. Kristen Calabro, performed a Vertebral Body Tethering (#VBT) procedure on 12-year-old Alice Sparks at #StonyBrook Children’s Hospital.
