Dr. James Barsi, assisted by Dr. Kristen Calabro, performed a Vertebral Body Tethering (#VBT) procedure on 12-year-old Alice Sparks at #StonyBrook Children’s Hospital. This procedure is the first of its kind to be performed on #LongIsland. “VBT is an exciting new procedure that has the potential to revolutionize how we treat #scoliosis in growing children.” -Dr. Barsi Since the tether is flexible, spinal motion is preserved, and through growth modulation, as the child grows, their curve will correct. #surgery #pediatricsurgery #orthopedics #WeAreStonyBrookMedicine
