You can't see them, but more are coming to New York City... Geothermal heat pumps (a.k.a. ground source heat pumps) are becoming more common as project teams prioritize all-electric systems, align with the city's carbon goals, and take advantage of financial incentives. This article by Samantha M. for The City highlights the benefits and the challenges of installing geothermal systems in a city like New York, as well as some of the largest geothermal projects to date. (We're excited to be working on 1 Java!) Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gPbNbyQu Shout out to SWA's Kevin McDonald and Adam Szlachetka for sharing their thoughts and resources on geothermal for this piece! 🙌

The theme of this year's BuildingEnergy Boston conference is #BuildTheMovement... Though we attend this conference every year, this year we feel an urgency to connect face-to-face with our fellow sustainable building advocates and discuss the progress still being made at the local level in the City of Boston, the State of Massachusetts, and other municipalities. A special shout out to SWA's Shari Rauls and Dylan Martello, who are participating in panel discussions on reducing embodied carbon in new construction projects and decarbonizing historic buildings, respectively. Please say hello if you see Shari, Dylan, and other SWA consultants at the conference! #BEBOS25 Northeast Sustainable Energy Association

Get ready to shape the future of #LEED! During member ratification, we invite USGBC organizational members and their employees to vote on the adoption of the #LEED rating system. Review the #LEEDv5 rating system drafts today. Member ratification is open through March 28. https://bit.ly/4h3jeiK

A day in the life of SWA sustainability consultants in Washington, DC 🌞 SWA was recently on-site at the Vermeer apartment community in the Capitol Riverfront to conduct blower door testing. All have passed! ✅ That means every unit is air-tight and will have reduced energy needs, increasing resident comfort while lowering heating and cooling costs. Excellent work from CBG Building Company and our high-performance building consultants. 🙌 The building superintendent, Karl Wright, shared with one of our consultants that he chose SWA to take the lead on the required testing because he feels comfortable working with us and trusts us. Thank you for the kind words, Karl! Interested in learning more about blower door testing?
