  • Carl Melendez’s Modified 1993 Ford Mustang LX Notchback: Carl Melendez’s Mustang Is a Fox-Body on the Wild Side. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Carl Melendez fell in love with American performance cars in his teens and remembers the pony car trifecta cruising the avenues. Although his tastes leaned towards the General’s offerings, like the Trans Am GTA, the allure of the “five-oh” Mustangs was hard to ignore. Decades later, Carl, now a highly successful businessman, was intent on recapturing the automotive machismo of his youth by acquiring his favorite rides from that era. Tops on the list was a Fox-body Mustang. Carl’s search for a Fox-body Mustang ended in New Jersey, where he discovered a 1993 LX notchback 5.0, stunning in Ruby Red. It was an F-150 color, said the owner, and he liked more than Strawberry, which the car had worn from the factory. This car was not stock: With slicks out back and skinnies up front, it was no doubt set up for the quarter-mile, but it had definitely been pampered, because it was very clean for a car with 108,000 miles on the clock. The owner handed Carl a folder stuffed with receipts for the work done, surpassing $60,000. After a look under the hood, Carl could see the money was well spent — he was ahead of the game. Carl gladly paid the asking price of $35,000. Carl had definitely scored himself a wild build … https://lnkd.in/e564pMYT (photo credit: Andrew Nussbaum / Hagerty)

  • Every New Manual Transmission Car (and Truck) You Can Still Buy in 2025: Manual transmissions are now almost exclusively for enthusiast vehicles and in many cases require an upcharge. Once the choice of both sports car purists and miserly economy car buyers, the manual transmission has just about completed its radical transformation into a low-volume (and sometimes extra-cost) special feature for a select few cars — and fewer trucks. The “standard” transmission now appeals only to a niche set of connoisseurs who are willing to pay for the privilege of rowing their own gears. While most base-model vehicles now come with a standard automatic, the Mustang, Elantra, and some others still use the manual as the base transmission for their high-power models. There are still outliers that follow the old ways; the Nissan Versa’s cheapest model is still a manual. Yet we’re still losing three-pedal cars, as the Camaro, Mini, Golf GTI and Golf R, Forte are now either gone or two-pedal only. Here’s what’s left … 2025 Ford Mustang With the Camaro and Dodge Challenger riding off into the sunset, the Ford Mustang will once again be the only gas-powered American muscle car left standing. Ford’s V-8-powered models of the new S650-generation 2025 Ford Mustang lineup — the GT coupe, GT Premium coupe, GT Premium convertible, and Dark Horse coupe — all come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The new Mustang's Coyote V-8 that the six-speed is mated to is reworked to produce 486 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque in both GT coupe and convertible forms with the optional active exhaust system, though its drops slightly to 480 hp and 415 lb-ft without the exhaust. The Mustang Dark Horse gets a bigger power bump, with a nice round 500 hp from the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine. Torque stays at 418 lb-ft. https://lnkd.in/grkkbxqK
