Benoit Deville started his SLB career as a mechanical engineer. Now serving as SLB's Technology Director for Renewables and Energy Efficiency, he uses the blueprint of the oil and gas industry to advance new energy solutions such as geothermal. “Geothermal is similar to oil and gas in that it connects to everything,” Benoit says. "It’s very much like oil and gas except we produce water or steam instead.” Read more of Benoit's journey here: https://lnkd.in/gUidbtkZ

As we embrace the future of autonomous operations in the oil and gas sector, it’s important to mitigate the potential risks associated with AI. To help us understand how to manage this, we turned to Muhammad Waqas, known for developing advanced solutions for operations. Muhammad provided the following tips to ensure safe and efficient deployment: 🔵 Design inherently safer autonomous systems Implement mechanisms, redundancy, and predictive analytics to anticipate and mitigate potential risks. https://lnkd.in/g9syMMkn 🔵 Enhance data security Autonomous systems rely on real-time data for decision-making, so we must prioritize cyber security. https://lnkd.in/gxwJD95R 🔵 Build trust The most important thing, Muhammad believes, is how you build trust in autonomous operations for both internal and external stakeholders. https://lnkd.in/g4vuDhSy Click here to read more of Muhammad’s tips and learn about the benefits of moving toward autonomy in oil and gas: https://lnkd.in/gaHfRByw

SLB has been awarded a major drilling contract by Australian independent Woodside Energy for its ultra-deepwater Trion development project, offshore Mexico. "With water depths of up to 2,500 meters, the Trion development presents challenging technical conditions for drilling and well construction,” said Wallace Pescarini, president, Offshore Atlantic, SLB. “SLB has extensive expertise in ultra-deepwater drilling projects globally and advanced technologies, including AI and digitally enabled hardware, to bring these wells online safely, efficiently and reliably. We will also leverage the strategic investments we’ve made in local talent and supply chains in Mexico, which will help support the on-time delivery of this project.” Learn more: https://bit.ly/4iPNgbC #WeAreSLB #ultradeepwater #offshore

Choosing the right large language model (LLM) for a project can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when most out-of-the-box solutions are too general for what our industry needs. These models need to be adapted for the energy sector and the specific domains within it if we want to adopt them. So, how do we go about selecting the right strategy? We asked four of our artificial intelligence experts to outline the advantages and challenges they see in today's most popular approaches: 🔵 Prompt engineering 🔵 Retrieval-augmented generation 🔵 Fine-tuning Not only do they give their recommendations, they also present a step-by-step decision tree for LLM customization that you can follow. Industrial decarbonization is essential for achieving global net-zero targets, and it requires collaboration from all players in the energy sector. 🔵 Tech developers, like SLB, must continue innovating to solve the current and future challenges of hard-to-abate industries. 🔵 Heavy industries, themselves, must be open to adopting and testing this new tech either in new lower-emission plants or by retrofitting the ones they have. 🔵 Governments and regulatory bodies must establish the right frameworks — ones that truly incentivize progress and tip the economics. 🔵 Consumers also have a role to play by demanding lower-carbon products, services, and solutions. While progress is being made, the world is asking all industries to move faster. How can they do that? SLB’s Nitin Goel and Joey Berry break down the situation clearly in their recent analysis:https://lnkd.in/gSVZsYBk

The AI transformation is here, but unlocking its full potential will require a digital platform infrastructure, domain-specific data, and the expertise of our teams across the industry. Earlier today, I joined Jason Zander, Emeka Emembolu, and Dan Bennett to discuss how the industry is innovating at the intersection of energy and intelligence. AI is the X factor, but its true impact will be determined by the people who use it. The most powerful solutions will be those that augment the knowledge of our teams, enabling us to reach new levels of safety, productivity, and performance. It’s been a great start to CERAWeek, and I look forward to visiting with many of SLB’s valued customers and partners over the next few days! #WeAreSLB #CERAWeek
