💨 Smoke Signals 💨 Sometimes real life only sounds like an #AprilFools joke. The encrypted messaging app #Signal triggered (no pun intended) some unsolicited media attention last week from the US Defense Department. In fact, interestingly, our data shows that US downloads jumped after the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20th, increasing as much as 17% DoD. But, the first rule of secret-war-club – don’t talk about secret-war-club. #SignalGate, as it’s been dubbed, spread like wildfire across the media and internet on March 24th, when Defense Dept. officials inadvertently invited a news reporter into their private convo. This latest exposure sparked a new round of downloads with a 47% DoD increase, two days after the incident.
