Senior Project Manager Logan Schaub proudly represented Rudolph and Sletten at the 2025 Create the Future Awards, standing alongside David Snyder, Esquire, Chair of the Board for the San Diego Symphony, to accept an award recognizing the firm’s outstanding work on the San Diego Symphony and Jacobs Music Center. Also in attendance from Rudolph and Sletten were Howard N. Mills, LEED AP, DBIA professional, Jon Foad, and Mark Legier, joining industry leaders in celebrating visionary projects that are transforming urban communities. Representing the San Diego Symphony were Martha Gilmer, Travis Wininger, and David Snyder, while Daniel Kotch attended on behalf of Gardiner & Theobald. Rudolph and Sletten hosted a Voluntary Protection Program - Construction (VPP-C) Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) Workshop on March 5th. The Cal-OSHA Consultation Team of Gary McIver, Jr. & David Gee enjoyed assisting the trade partners in preparing for the Golden Gate award certification on the Kaiser San Jose Project. 🚧 Moving a 14-Ton Giant: The Journey of "El Rey" 🚧 Big moves are happening at the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) STEAM Building project! One of the most iconic pieces of campus history, El Rey—a massive 9-foot-tall, 14-ton Olmec head by artist Ignacio Pérez Solano—has officially relocated. This re-siting of the Olmec head, a replica of San Lorenzo #1 gifted to CCSF by the Mexican state of Veracruz in 2004, underscores its deep cultural significance. The original Olmec head is 3,000 years old, carved from the same stone, and symbolizes the longstanding cultural heritage of this continent. El Rey also serves as a powerful reference to Diego Rivera’s Pan American Unity mural, which will eventually be displayed in the adjacent Diego Rivera Theater, celebrating the unity and artistic expressions of North and South America. The move was no small feat: 🔹 First, crews carefully chipped away concrete to free the statue. 🔹 Using a metal frame, it was lifted over the existing theater. 🔹 A 32-inch-deep, 5.5-inch-wide core was drilled into the back of its head to insert a stabilizing rod. 🔹 Finally, El Rey was laid flat, transported, and then expertly hoisted into its new place.
