We are thrilled to be honoring IKIGAI at our 2025 Spring Gala. IKIGAI is a Japanese-inspired kaiseki restaurant in NYC owned by Dan Soha. They are a not-for-profit organization that donates ALL of their proceeds to RLC to help combat food insecurity!🍱 Through the Japanese term “Ikigai”— finding purpose through meaningful life— Dan was inspired to follow his dreams of opening this restaurant and using it to help those in need have access to food. We are deeply grateful to Dan and the entire IKIGAI team for supporting our mission to rescue excess food in order to fight food insecurity. Join us on Thursday, May 8th at 6 PM at 160 Central Park West to hear Dan share his inspiring journey and how we can all play a role in making a difference. Don’t miss this incredible evening celebrating those who are changing lives— get your tickets now!🎟️ https://lnkd.in/gMt_vrUq #RLCGala2025 #FoodRescue

Food waste is an ethical issue. Danielle Nierenberg told us as she and Amy Keister welcomed a packed audience to WNYC Radio studios in honor of #StopFoodWasteDay: an event born out of “respect for our resources, for the folks who grow our food, and an understanding of how interconnected we are.” We heard from “Waste Warriors,” including young poets and our Waste Warrior of the Year Award recipient, Tony Hillery (Harlem Grown). Some of the key messages: 🌎 "Stopping Food Waste is only a social good if we redirect those resources toward those experiencing scarcity.” - Natasha Bernstein Bunzl, Doctoral Student, NYU Steinhardt, on a panel with Harrison Herz, Undergraduate Student, NYU Steinhardt and Jennifer Berg, Department Chair of Nutrition and Food Studies, NYU Steinhardt. 🌎 "It’s fun to think about creative ways to use all the produce, repurpose leftovers, rehydrate bread: Thinking about the food like it’s Hindu and we’re reincarnating it.” - Priyanka Naik 🌎 "We're already out of time... That's that part that truly keeps me up at night." - Sam Kass 🌎 ”We think of food waste as a behavior problem but it's not always easy to do the right thing; Things that aren't measured don't move; and The majority of people are surprised they waste more food than they think they do.” - Harry Tannenbaum, Mill, on a panel with Robert Lee, CEO, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine and Chris Ivens-Brown, Chief Culinary Officer, Compass Group. 🌎 "The funny thing happens when you start growing vegetables with children: they like it! We’re really growing people." - Tony Hillery, Harlem Grown And a few stand-out lines from our student poets: 📜 "Eat your bread crumbs. Turn waste into treasure." - Andrew Fisher Jr., 10 Year-old Youth Poet, Brooklyn 📜 "If you compost your leftover food, it will change the Earth's mood." - Prahlada Rastogi, 10 Year-old Youth Poet, Princeton, NJ 📜 "Eat from the small containers in the back of your fridge" - Merrill Schaefer, 13 Year-old Youth Poet, New York City

Tonight, Food Tank and Compass Group are hosting the Stop Food Waste Day event at WNYC-NPR Studios’ The Greene Space! 🌎 🌿 As Stop Food Waste Day is the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste, this is a wonderful occasion to learn from the trailblazers leading the fight for change, enjoy powerful spoken word poetry by young artists, and engage in thought-provoking conversations on ending food waste. ♻️ 🍽️ Our CEO Robert Lee will be one of the speakers tonight to discuss how we can rescue wasted food in order to fight food insecurity and transform lives. As Earth Month begins today, this is an amazing opportunity to come together and spark meaningful change! ✨ 🌱 #foodtank #StopFoodWasteDay
