  • In Episode 4 of our Long-Term Thinking series, “Getting smarter over time,” we explore how Quilt’s embedded software extends the life of our heat pump — and makes it better with every update. Traditional HVAC systems are frozen in time the day they’re installed. But Quilt is different. By uniting cutting-edge hardware with seamlessly updatable software, we unlock a new standard for home comfort and long-term performance. As Claire Gagne and Brian Stack share in this episode, we've already shipped remote updates that fix real-world issues — like a subtle sound users noticed — all without ever stepping into a customer’s home. That ability to evolve, protect, and personalize over time is built into the DNA of Quilt. The best products don’t just last — they keep getting better, and smarter.

I’ve been thinking about HVAC for a really, really long time. As someone who helped bring smart climate control into the home a decade ago with Nest, I could immediately see the potential in Quilt – and more than that, the team. Paul Lambert and his team at Quilt are redefining home comfort by combining elegant design with smart technology, driving the adoption of sustainable, all-electric solutions that transform the way we live, and are better for the planet. I am excited to join the board and continue to support Quilt’s continued growth and innovation.

I'm so excited to share that Matthew Rogers, co-founder of Nest and CEO/co-founder at Mill has joined the Quilt Board of Directors. Matt is incredible. He's been helping us out at Quilt since the very earliest of days – I can point to multiple pivotal moments in the company that wouldn't have happened without him. It was time to formalize! It's not an exaggeration to say that Matt is probably the most qualified person in the world to be our first independent director. Nest is the best example of how design and technology can redefine the home HVAC market and is/was the most successful startup ever in our space. They paved the way for us. But it goes beyond that – Matt is a true mission-driven builder at heart with a long-term, humanity-first perspective (just look at everything he is doing at Mill), exactly the cultural traits we aspire to at Quilt. He's also insanely knowledgable about everything from hardware engineering to go-to-market strategy. Matt is who I would dream of having in our corner as Quilt sets out to build the modern, technology-driven answer to a stagnant industry, and to help redefine energy, health, and comfort in buildings over the coming decades. And now he is (formally). Welcome to Quilt, Matt!

In the third episode of our Long-Term Thinking series, “Minimizing carbon footprint,” we explore the design and engineering choices that make Quilt not just efficient — but deeply sustainable. Ductless heat pumps are already the most energy-efficient way to heat and cool a home. But at Quilt, we take it further. Isaac McQuillen shares how the vapor injection architecture in our outdoor unit enables a smaller footprint while delivering record-breaking performance. Yue Li then explains how we removed 99% of the styrofoam from our custom packaging — replacing it with more sustainable materials without compromising protection or experience. Efficiency isn’t just about energy usage — it’s about making thoughtful, long-term decisions at every stage of the product journey. That’s where Quilt’s commitment to sustainability truly comes to life. #ClimateTech #Sustainability #LongTermThinking #productengineering #engineering #engineeringhardward #HeatPumps #HVAC

  • Our very own Paul Lambert will be joining fellow founders Alicia Scott of Range Beauty and Keith Peiris of Tome at Mercury Spheres to discuss how user-centered design can help products evolve from being simply desirable, to essential parts of daily life. For early-stage founders navigating the journey of solving functional problems to creating must-have experiences, this conversation promises valuable cross-industry insights on design principles that transcend category boundaries. Anyone else from our network attending Mercury Spheres next month? Would love to connect and support other founders reimagining traditional industries. Drop a comment if you'll be there! 📍 San Francisco, May 20  🎟️ Use code ORBIT100 at mercury.com/spheres for $100 off your ticket.

  • "The path of electrification mirrors other technological revolutions—costs decrease while performance improves,” said Lambert. “Unlike fossil fuels, which grow more expensive as supplies dwindle, electric technologies become more accessible and powerful over time. It’s the same pattern we saw with smartphones and computers—continuous innovation drives down costs while enhancing capabilities. Fossil fuels can’t match this trajectory of improvement—they’re limited by nature, while electric technologies are only limited by human ingenuity.” - Paul Lambert, co-founder & CEO. ⚡ https://lnkd.in/eTU52G3E

  • In the second episode of our Long-Term Thinking series, “Building products that last,” we spotlight two members of our hardware team: Mei Zhang and Samuel Gregory. Mei brought to life the vision of our industrial designers, Mike & Maaike, in the physical product design. From there, Sam architected a rigorous test suite to make sure those designs could truly stand the test of time. A major part of modernizing the heat pump is giving it the ability to improve over time. That's why we built Quilt with a smart module that has 500x more processing power than any other system on the market. Because it’s positioned directly in the line of airflow, the smart module was subjected to a demanding set of test conditions to validate its long-term performance and durability. Sam also shares insights into another engineering challenge: delivering the high performance of a much larger system within Quilt’s compact, sleek form — a feat achieved through thoughtful thermal and mechanical engineering and exhaustive testing. Ultimately, our goal is to create technology that seamlessly integrates into your life and your home — and lasts for decades. #ClimateTech #Sustainability #LongTermThinking #productengineering #engineering #engineeringhardward #HeatPumps #HVAC

  • 🎵From the creative minds who brought you the world’s first heat pump capsule collection. Introducing the Quilt Nano: The first-ever pocket-sized heat pump that doubles as a speaker! Customers have loved being able to heat and cool their homes with Quilt - but perfect climate should be portable, too! That's why our engineers have been secretly using their miniaturization skills to develop the Quilt Nano. Now you can heat and cool on the go – and that’s not all! Breakthrough features include: - 400% efficiency at less than 0.1% the size of an actual Quilt Outdoor Unit - Transitions seamlessly from cooling you down to pumping up the beats - Only plays songs about heat pumps, specifically “(I’m Your) Heat Pump" by Michael Roberts featuring Will Hammond Jr. - Completely defies the laws of thermodynamics. Please don’t tell our lawyers we said this. Can’t wait to get your hands on one? Comment where you’d take the Quilt Nano this sultry spring and we’ll choose one winner who will receive this limited edition innovation. (We’re not joking). Disclaimer: The Quilt Nano cannot actually heat or cool your home. Or your body. Yet. But our speaker prototype does play music, which is almost as cool. Literally. https://lnkd.in/gtfAQyBR
